Where to relocate to?
Discussion
I've just got a new job at Morrisons HQ (Bradford - BD3) so looking to re-locate shortly.
Wondered if anyone had recomendations for places to live? We are looking at renting, idealy below £600 PCM so nothing too expensive.
My Girlfriend will be working in Leeds also, she's keen on Skipton but I'd like somewhere a bit closer so I have a shorter day and the flexibility to nip home at lunch time and check on the dog perhaps - though I'm not absolutely set on this, it would just be nice.
Any ideas? We want somewhere nice and civilised, if there's greenery nearby for walking the dog than even better.

Apperley Bridge? Train station 12 mins into Leeds, on the canal for walks etc, and you'll be the 'right side' of the river for Bradford (having to cross from one side to the other is what kills you in traffic, Rodley, Apperley Bridge and then shipley are the only crossings really, hence why traffic would be bad from Guiseley, Horsforth or Cookridge)
I'd second Rodley, particularly given the budget. A girl I was seeing lived there and she too worked in Bradford some days and Leeds others and it was nicely between the 2. Easy enough to train to Leeds centre too from New Pudsey and free station parking. Very easy to get to on the ring road.
Nice Turkish restaurant and the Barge is a decent honest boozer. Nice in the summer next to the canal too.

im in bramley, town end area and its about a twenty minute drive to the hq, just off stanningley road and an easy drive, or good bus routes or train too both to leeds centre or the hq at the end of dick lane. nice and quiet too never had a minutes bother, plus close to all amenities like supermarkets etc bus routes curry houses and a brilliant couple of chip shops, daisy fisheries or midgleys on town street. i would say skipton would be a bit far and a royal pain in the arse given traffic on mornings and evenings . house prices are reasonable as are rents. friendly area low crime rate. . i cant fault it to be honest. farsley is close and also worth a gander at as is calverly too. pudsey seems to be on a bit of a decline and would avoid to be honest.
if the mrs is working in leeds she can expect at least an hour and a half drive maybe more in rush hour and public transport even longer. no way would i do that commute each day. youd have a faster commute if you lived in say york and have at least a good rail link, farsley certain parts of bramley and calverly would be my go to, rodley is nice tooand apperly bridge isnt too bad now they have re opened the railway station. i think for your prices you may struggle for horsforth or guiesley unless in the lesser pleasant areas around there.
I'd be looking round the LS28 area (Pudsey, Stanningley, Farlsey areas). As others have said there's New Pudsey train station down the road for the Mrs and you could probably walk to Morrisons HQ from Stanningley or from certain parts of Pudsey.
You've got the cycle lane running along Bradford Road so that's another option to get to work?

I would say Baildon/Guiseley/Menston are pretty good shouts near enough but far enough away plus lots of greenery up'tmoor.
Whilst I don't disagree, I'd used the budget as the starting point in my view and would be surprised if the areas you mention have much in the sub £600 PCM category. Shnozz said:

Depends what you want to live in. I live in Bingley (near Baildon) and there are places in decent enough areas at or below £600, though you'll probably be looking at a two bed (max) flat. The OP mentions a dog. Good luck finding anyone who'll rent you a property with pets. We were looking for somewhere in the £500-550 range and ended up paying £650 as it was literally the only landlord who would have our two cats. The OH used to commute to Pudsey from Bingley and it was horrific. Shipley is a horrendous bottleneck and there to Rawdon roundabout is a crawl during rush hour. Coming back the queuing started at Pudsey roundabout and lasted all the way to Saltaire.I was talking more Guiseley and Menston to be fair.
Quick search on rightmove shows only 3 (v small places) that aren't a house share for sub £600 in Guiseley. And 3 also in Menston (that aren't a share or an office).
To be fair Rodley doesn't show that many more but at least a half dozen...

This seems like good advice. Calverley is also good, or slip into Greengates for a BD postcode and cheaper housing. I live in Pudsey, Hillfoot area, it's nice round there. Earlier comments about Pudsey going downhill may be applicable to the less well heeled areas as you approach Bramley, the rest of it is standard pleasant suburbia. Boring but safe. I'd also be considering Apperley Bridge etc, though I don't know the area. Once you get into BD postcodes it gets very variable. Some parts are OK, some others (eg Thornbury, not far from me) are best avoided. You'll spot them soon enough though. You've got the cycle lane running along Bradford Road so that's another option to get to work?
Hi all, thought I'd check in... I have been keeping a keen eye on posts and really appreciate the replies so far.
Girlfriend is very keen on Skipton, where the prices seem pretty reasonable and reportably a good area. I am a bit hesistant as it would seem though it will mean an hour of travelling each way, however if it means a good quality of life I'll consider.
We've got a few viewings booked in over the weekend and will do a bit of exploring!
I'm still hoping to find somewhere nice thats a 20 minute drive from BD3!

Calverley/Rodley/Farsley are all reasonable bets. It won't be too bad for you to drive to Pudsey, in fact, it might even be walkable and your OH can drive to Apperley Bridge and get on a train to Skipton. That's the best compromise.
