My eldest has just turned 6 and has shown an interest in having a go at karting. He's had a go on electric ones on holiday and also was surprisingly adept at driving a lawn tractor over here, he now fancies stepping up a level.

I've looked at the usual suspects for karting such as in Leeds but none seem to offer anything for younger kids. There only seem to be a few dotted around the country and the nearest is miles away.

Does anybody know of anywhere in Yorkshire that may be able to assist?

I take my lad to Tyke Karting in Barnsley. They have a cadet drivers club 1st Wednesday evening of the month and last Saturday. Electric karts, £25 gets them on track for usually 4 or 5, 10 minute sessions followed by a standing start final. Best give them a call beforehand. Been looking into progressing into racing at local circuits, but I don't think it is possible to do without a large time commitment plus around £4k!

I'm not sure where you are but it could be worth looking at F1 Karting in York, I know they have kids karts.

Pretty small track at York, 17 sec or so I think.

I take my nephew and niece to Tyke, half decent track size and the electric karts are relatively nippy compared to most half-knackered hire karts.

If that's the one at Monks Cross then they used to be pretty good (karts in good condition, good marshalling, etc) but that was a few years ago.

Nephew was doing some sort of kids karting at Wakefield Indoor Karting, but it was junior petrol karts rather than electric?

also went once with my brother in law and have to say it was a good track and friendly people (we were on adult karts, which were bloody quick!!) thumbup

That's the one and I'd say it's still the same. They've changed the track and refurbished the front area so it's great now. Staff and karts are still great.
