Hi Yorkshire car folks...

The EYTCC are holding a Classic car social meet - Wednesday 24th Aug, from 5pm-9pm at the Cottingham Parks Golf club.

Normally a 15 year 'classic' car rule applies....

Sounds great. but typical EYTCC , happy to flex the rules when suits. Perhaps you could help in clarify what exactly constitutes super car metal in the eyes of the club as it seems rather open to opinion.

Hi. Well suppose 15 year old car rule is what's official.

I've noticed flexing of rules in the past hence why I said that, I'm in no way in control of these said rules, last one I went to there was a Ferrari 458 speciale, and f430 scuderia parked up on display... Hence super car.

I've got no idea what the eyes of the club really are, someone on the committee must have liked ferraris at last meet....

All I like to do is make people aware that these open event are on, and I like to see all cars, of all ages makes models.

Whether you can park a modern Aston or Ferrari with a 45 year old classic is upto those on the gate sorry. :-(

Worst case is you have to park opposite the classic car display...and you still get to look at 100 nice classic cars for free happy days.

For me though it's More the merrier.

Hi, I almost completely agree with your comments and certainly the more the merrier. For me there are numerous rare cars of interest out there, some rarer than a Ferrari that warrant viewing. At the end of the day we all have different views on what is classic or interesting and I think one guys opinion on the gate is unsatisfactory. This " badge snobbery" also appears to extend to the judging of vehicles which quite frankly I find appalling and have fallen victim to.

Anyway, thanks for spreading the word, I hope my comments haven't put you off.

Your right there are many rare interesting cars and of all types/value/styles and each are of interest to different people. To be honest the car club (even with some of it's faults) does generally a good (and difficult) job of getting a good variety of cars of all makes, and some more special than others, and some more valuable. What they do is have two class rules 15 year and 20 year (as minimums) for certain events (not so much these social meets) but for the club booked meets and this does cover a very wide number of cars of interest. What they do try stop is cars more modern like an m-sport kitted 320d etc or a Sri Astra or corsa modded up, and in fairness this type of newer car modded or not would be more at home with a different type of club (Like fast and modded or modified genius etc etc) as they are not a classic (age wise) and that shouldn't offend their owners, it's finding the right balance or club to cater for as much classic metal as possible.

For me the badge snobbery can work both ways, I have an e-type jag, and never get any prizes, or features in club mags, and yet at times you see a Capri or a Mgb or even a 205gti...both winning prizes and photographed in the club mags...however this doesn't offend me at all it's slightly odd sure as there's not much more of a classic and iconic car than an e-type but I don't attend these events or join the club for prizes or awards, and I'll enjoy my car either way, and enjoy their events very much.

Your comments would never put me off so don't worry, I go to most Eytcc events and enjoy them whatever the 'club rules' and care little for judging and the politics of the club, there are lots of nice people with nice cars all there for the same reason to enjoy classic cars.
