Found myself looking at one of these today:
Mitsubishi L200 'Animal'.
I basically need something to take the dogs around in, and to get the milage down on the T350.
Having looked into it a bit further, it seems that I can run one of these on conract hire through the business, and it will only cost me, including insurance, etc, around £ 3,000 per year (it being a commercial, and tax advantages, etc).
Seems too good to be true. A brand spanking new pickup for £250 per month.
Leather, a/c, satnav, etc, etc.
Got a test drive next friday, and assuming it drives ok, will have one outside the house a couple of weeks later.
Anyone got one ? If so, What do you reckon to it ?

aren't the tax advantages that they offer soon to be disolved as the Goverment realised too many people are doing the same as yourself?
Soon, but not this tax year I don't think. My mum works as a tax advisor and has loads of clients with pick ups as daily drivers. If it is the sort of thing you want, now is the time to pounce

Hi Mark i run two Nissan Navaras king cabs top motors.
I was told that speccing leather seats could cause a problem with the tax/vat man, like are leather seats required in a commercial vehicle.
Top motors though and no problems at all in 3 years with both.
Looked at a Navara as well, but for some reason they cost about £150 per month more
With regards to the leather interior ? I was told that as long as it was classed as a commercial, which it is, then there is not problems. I will have a word with accountant on monday to check though, so cheers.
I understand that goverment changes are not due until 2007, and therefore I have 2 years before needing to worry.

Sa long as you have an ex-works payload of at least 1000kgs it is still classified as a commercial regardless of the interior. L200s have a minimum payload of 1065kg depending on model. A flat rate of 45kg is removed for a canopy so even with a canopy on it is still classified as a commercial so you can claim your VAT back if you are VAT registered.

Currently your benefit in kind is £500 meaning £110 p/a if you are on 22% or £200 for 40% tax payers. You get the same again for free fuel so worst case scenario is £400 p/a.
In the 2007/8 tax year the BiK is going to be £3000 so the tax liability will rise quite substantially but if you compare a warrior with aircon and leather to a similarly specced Mondeo or Vectra you will still be better off.
One of my brothers had one, it was ok, and never let him down in 63K miles.
But, they don't drive too well, and without the optional power chip are sluggish.
As Rods says the Nissan is a good bet.
My bro's Animal has now been replaced by an Isuzu Rodeo crew cab which is excellent. You can even get an auto if you want, its the only pick up to offer an auto box with a derv engine.
