malton big breakfast....max power or worth going to?
Discussion
I was very much enthused to go to the big breakfast....checked out previous bb on YouTube and horrified to see it resembles something of a max power fest with corsas and focus St's galore......
Now I'm no snob but I'm an old man now and am well past ogling at hot hatches.....is it worth going to or is it basically a glorified chav fest?

'Back in the day' it was mainly supercars, predominantly Porsche, with a (largeish) handful of Italian exotica, Astons, McLarens and the odd rare Supercar thrown in (XJ220 I recall). I also remember possibly the first UK R8 convertible turning up, I think it was a press car (and it was filthy!)
The last few years have been more like 'anything goes' - Classic, Sports, American, Hot Hatch, Rally, Max Power, Jap, Kit cars - plus of course Supercars, although you have to search for them harder, and some of the better cars seem to arrive early and leave early.
Leeds Supercar Meet are bringing quite a few nice cars too this time
I always look forward to it, as I enjoy seeing/meeting people and gawping at and talking about, cars. Any cars.
Biggest gripe is the need to arrive early or you will get parked on the extremities or in the overflow car park (ie field)
Try it. If you like it, you'll come back. If not, you'll have had a ride out, seen some cars, and you can always leave to go for another scenic run on the way home.

I heard quite a few cars got tickets (44-47mph) when leaving the estate last year, there was camera van hidden on the approach into Malton from specialist cars.
Also heard a proportion of the funds raised goes direct to the police and not air ambulance? any care to comment on that and prove/disprove?
I'm a little wary of heading over now.

There are always speed cameras out in the area on the day, and this fact is advetised fairly well.
The camera covering the estate leaving towards the A64 and York has always been very easy to spot in the times I've been.
As for the event itself for the times I've been, I've enjoyed the trip there (with a good selection of cars) more than the actual event. I still parked up, have my bacon bun and put some cash in the buckets and then leave.

Unsurprisingly, the video captures a true representation, albeit the "event" can be what you make it. I enjoyed a couple but too many baseball caps and ST's with their bonnets up for me these days ta.
A victim of its own success in many ways which was made by many of the cars that used to attend. After all, it is just a garage open day with a cup of coffee and a bacon roll in an industrial estate. Clearly there are still many wanting to attend and good luck to them.

Well its no where near the full of chav fests that were Max power events! but as with all open public car meets, you do get a fair few of the modded crew and younger bunch of corsas, ST's, VXR's and such - i would say saxos but not seen a decent VTS for a while!
But if you like cars (and i assume you do) then its a really good turn out of variety, plenty or porsches (of course!) but a load of other rare metal i do remember seeing a Jag XJ220 before, and a load of ferraris, Tvr's Astons, and specialist cars themselves have a good stock or rare and valuable cars, last year they had one of the first 918 spyders in the showroom, they open up their workshops and last year had an RS200 and Metro 6R4 in the shop, and a porsche 959 if i recall.
I'd say go along, have a look you might enjoy it.

Years gone by I would totally agree some fantastic cars but now Chavs have landed with the Idiots and there music systems which is a shame. This has spoilt it for the genuine Petrolheads amongst us.There are die hards still out there Braving this element to display our pride and joy...

Ask Mark at Specialist Cars to answer that question he helps organise it and is a straight talking guy.Oh and he's a member on here.
I went for the first time in Autumn. You've got to hand it to Specialist Cars - it was a well organised event which must take plenty of setting up, for (probably) very little advertising or revenue return.
I completely agree with the above though - I saw someone on PH had described it as a 'chavalanche' which made me LOL because it was pretty accurate. I couldn't believe all the Max Power types, where have they been hiding for the last 15 years?! Surely a purple flick painted Corsa and 15 year old still handcuffed to the roll cage isn't fashionable still?
To be honest though - when we were there the Max Power types didn't bother us at all. Just like anyone else they were there to see some nice cars and have a chat. If there had to be one group who did piss me off it would be the Monaro lot who just sat revving their engines all morning. We all love the sound of a V8 but we were there for the best part of an hour and they were still going. Tiny willy waving at its best.
Anyway OP - it's still worth going. As mentioned above there's some nice metal to suit all tastes. A lovely mustard Defender was probably my favourite, and my 3 wheeler got a good response which is always nice. So go.

Just got back from this, still a really good event for those wondering whether to bother with it. Great mix of cars from all genres. If I had a gripe it would be the "bounce it off the limiter" crowd, but the people doing it were so diverse that its hard to blame it on one particular steretype - so I assume Im just getting old!

Quite good event today. Seems (imo) to be more Supercars this time round than last year turning up.
The weather was lovely and the police unintrusive.
Good turn out. Some lovely metal on show. That Mclaren 675LT is something else!
There was a few of the "boy racer" crowd bouncing some nasty micra off the limiter. But that just shows the diversity of attendee.
A great informal gathering. My lad loved the open workshops with the engines hanging out the back of the Porches.

Didn't get there till after 08:30 so missed out on seeing some of the supercars that arrived earlier like the Aventador SV. Lord knows what time you have to arrive to get parked up on the estate but the overflow parking on the field was fine and there was plenty of interesting metal in there too.
I agree with the comments above about the handful of folk who decided bouncing off the rev limiter was a smart thing to do. The event has grown considerably since I last attended in November 2012 so it's understandable that the police presence was higher. They still allowed people to leave with a bit of gusto though which was good.
