Going to Whitby on Sunday
Discussion
If the weather is anything like remotely sunny - go early. Like 7am early.
Now is prime-time of the year for most of Yorkshire to decide on sunday that they'd like to go spend most of the day in a Traffic jam on the A64, A169, A170 etc.
FYI We always go at crack of dawn and just back on the seafront near the whale bones, above the theatre thingy.

Thanks for the replies. We're going for drinks the night before for someones birthday but i'm hoping to set off about 8/9sih but coming from Leeds its going to take 2 hours to get there.
I've looked at the park and ride and the other one so depending on the time we set off i'll go to either one probably.
I'll also check the chippy out!

Park on the Abbey car park...(Free in winter) at least it was last month, and walk down the 199 steps into town.
Fish and chips in "The Magpie"...if the queue isn't too bad.....
Walk right to the far end of the pier. (Don't get blown off)..
also just googled the magpie and can't find it :/Fish and chips in "The Magpie"...if the queue isn't too bad.....

I was there last Sunday and the Sunday before.
Both times we parked in the quayside car park near the railway station and Co-op. You can park up on the cliff top where there is both free disc parking and pay and display parking on the road side. I think that the free disc parking was limited to a couple of hours.
If you get bored of Whitby there are some nice village to the north, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are all nice.
If going from Leeds the obvious route is the A64 but on a sunny weekend the traffic is a chore.
I live near Leeds but go North up the A1, then go on the A19 past Thirsk, onto A172, through Great Ayton on the A173 and then down to Whitby on the A171. I find it is a nice drive and is never held up like the A64 is.

Walk along Pier Road towards the sea, go past the Magpie where the queue will be blocking the pavement, until you come to the Lifeboat Museum. Turn left on to Khyber Pass (I kid you not) and follow the road round. 100 metres in front of you is the Fisherman's Wife fish restaurant. Ask for a sea view. It overlooks the beach, its airy and spacious and the food is very good.

Follow the one way but past the star inn follow it round and there's a car park that's literally dead all year long as not many ppl kno it's there, pretty much behind the star, we use it all the time and we are guaranteed a parking spot
