I want to add a removable steering wheel on my Renault Spider but the steering column and spline adapters are fairly unique so the generic hub kits don't fit.

I have sourced another wheel and want to find someone who could cut the centre disc section out and then fettle the disc down to a certain diameter to match the quick release adapter that I will drill/tap and bolt together. They may have to smooth off the front face of the disc too so it's flat. Photo below.

Not sure how difficult a job this would be but any recommendations for a local machine shop or hobbyist who could do this cost effectively.

Thanks

Trouble is that the metal part of steering wheels are mostly magnesium alloy which is not too good for that kind of adapter. You'd be better off giving wheel to someone and asking them to make up an adapter that's the same size.

Or bite the bullet, get the Clio adapter and modify the steering column shroud.

Even in cast it should be stronger than some of the adapters being sold at the moment although drill and tapping will not help with cracking. The Spider doesn't have a hub and fitting one would result in the wheel being extended more than I am comfortable with (especially with the quick release).

More than happy for an adapter to be made up but don't want to start cutting the fibreglass shroud. Want to ensure it is all reversible and original.

Just need to find someone that can cut the wheel down or make a similar adapter as a one off.

How much is a s/h steering column?

The proper way to do it would be to weld an adapter on to the column and replace the column if you want to revert.
