I might be in York on Coney Street tomorrow evening - I don't know York too well (at all) so where is a good place to park (preferably free) near there?

Thanks

Castle Car Park (opposite the Hilton Hotel) is about 5 minutes walk away.

£2 from 6pm onwards.

I'd avoid Castle like the plague, very narrow spaces, asking for a door ding in my opinion..

Bit pricy, but the multi story, Qpark Shambles is not far away from Coney Street, just off Foss Islands Road, about 5 minutes walk.

I usually park in the car park just off St John Street.

James - as an ex-Yorkite, I agree that Castle is by far your best bet. The spaces re narrow but there should be enough space on an evening not to get jammed in.

My personal favourite is the NCP at the Stonebow. Don't attempt the ramp in anything low/wide, but it will be free at that time as the attendant clocks off at 5.

As a Yorkie, I agree that you should avoid the Castle car park. The spaces are far too narrow and door dings are common.

St. Georges field is nearly next door and has proper sized spaces. Nunnery Lane is good for the Micklegate area, Peel street for the Walmgate Area and Monk Bar (St John Street) or Union Terrace for the Minster side of the City.

All are much better than Castle.

I went with the Castle in the end - worked out nicely as the Lady I met happened to be parked there too and I got to be the gentleman and walked her to her car.
