Corporate Intranet blocks access to PH
Discussion
You can use www.petrolheads.co.uk to access PH too, that was the sites original name I think.

Hi,
Bit geek but if you can get Pistonheads IP address you can use that as well. Some Admin's only block the site name. This is an example http://192.168.0.10 i don't actually know its IP address. Maybe Ted could pass this information on? I have used it in the past with external email blocking as well

http://195.225.218.59 is the one you get when searching on www.pistonheads.com, but it don't work
However, that's kinda against the point - if it's getting banned and you find a work-around you'll get in more trouble...

It needs to be pistonhead IP. Then one on the list is petrol heads IP. You get petrolheads page but no further.
If you're willing to read but not post, then you can get a remote web-proxy.
Plenty of other options too involving things like installing local authenticating proxy-servers on your PC to make sure the corporate firewall's not blocking the ports needed to get a remote connection up to a home PC, run RDC to that, then browse from there to your heart's content, etc.
All gets a bit complicated.

Buy a laptop
I just use their phone bill instead!! Ok it's a bit/lot slower but the internet grinds to a halt during and after lunchtime here anyway!!
Ok it's a costly workaround, I'll get my coat...
Rich
It is a laptop....... and yes our internet grinds to a halt at lunchtime here too.......
.........So bought my own hard drive for it, job done.

Just had a warning from Corporate Intranet that Pistonheads is unsuitable site and will be blocked!
Really!!!? Just how much time were you spending on there?!
BTW, It's still working for me.
Spending hardly any time, and always lunchtime or after 5pm.
It is still working, but had a pop-up warning from administrators, it may just have been some content on the thread at the time.

Read only is better than nothing, so how do I get this proxy thing going.
Well... it depends on how savvy your Network bods are. The simplest thing is to go through a site like http://proxify.com/. That'll just take your web requests for PistonHeads and forward them on, all through a web page. It's then just a matter of how long before they block that site.
The alternative is to use a proper proxy server. It's too late in the evening to go into the nuances of proxy chaining now, but this site's got everything you should need on it (and the page below answers all the initial questions):
