Did a trip many years ago, just make sure she gets the Ferry to northern Spain. Eg Santander or Bilbao, I think there are routes from Plymouth and Portsmouth to consider. Don't try "saving time" by driving from Calais to Banus in 17 hours like I did in 1996.

There is now a fast ferry from Plymouth to Northern Spain - something like 17 hours instead of 36, not sure of the operator.

I have to say, my advice would be to go from calais! I did it 7 weeks ago all the way down here to southern portugal and it was absolutely fantastic!

however, there are people who regard me as slightly unhinged so it may not be the best course of action....

Britany Ferries go Plymouth - Santander in 18 hours with an afternoon departure.

Afternoon chaps and chapesses

That is exactly where I am and it is STINKING HOT Sat in the little internet cafe overlooking Burriana Beach... and Vicki and Gabby are chatting to some locals so I am even on PH with full permission

Can't help on the ferry I'm afraid John as I did the Chunnel, but like some people have already said, there are some fast ferry's now, 24hrs or less. Once you hit Bilbaoa or Santander, straight down via Madrid is a fairly fast run, maybe 10 or 11 hours at Autovia speeds. She may want to break the journey.
