What marque next ?
Discussion
Just wondered on what marque the people on here think they will opt for next ? TVR/Porsche/Ferrari ? And their reasoning for doing so.
I know Burriana is thinking of changing to a Ferrari 348. Not sure of reason why ?
Personally, can see myself going down the Porsche 997 route next. Reason for doing so: 1) Build quality, 2) Price & 3) Don't think I could bring myself to wait 2 years if I wanted a Typhon & the Sagaris a little too 'extreme'.
Finally (and obviously as an after thought), what car is the one you are aspiring to own ? For me it has to be a GT2 or RUF Turbo
Subject to whatever life throws at me

Because we need to save some cash and the general running of it is huge. Its such a lovely car too, only let me down once nothing engine related
Also Fish fancies a change, we have had TVRs for 4 years and he wants to experience another marque. I have no doubt that in a years time we will be back in a Tiv, perhaps a Tamora

Lotus Elise was the first 'Real' car I ever ordered. Went into JCT Brookland (Leeds) a couple of days after christmas a few years ago to get one (when current shape came out). The salesman was the nicest guy ever. Deposit was put down on a one with Race-Tech pack, stereo, etc, etc (couldn't afford the Ice Blue colour I wanted so had to have red or black (standard colours)) so opted for red.
Then the b@stards at work changed the car policy so they said I couldn't have it.
Went back to dealer to tell them, etc, etc, and they still invited me down on open day & let me have a blast in one (didn't have one in showroom to test drive when I ordered one, as they were that new).
Suspect that other people telling me what I can and cannot do is the reason why I set up my own company.
So anyway, I'm sure you'll love it

I wanted to leave that last line by itself because that is the main reason for my decision to get a Ferrari.
The secondary reasons are that I love the look of the 348 Spider. It will give me the same wind in your hair, sun on your face motoring as the Griff. What it lacks in low down tarmac chewing straight line acceleration, it will make up for in mid-range motorway playing, Formula 1 exhaust note howling speed, aswell as go-cart like road holding... Jaysus they're wide!
This time two years ago, if someone had told me I'd be driving down to Spain in a TVR in a years time, I would have thought, hmm possibly... then two years after that you'll be doing the trip in a Ferrari 348 Spider... now that would have been pushing it a bit.
I consider myself very very lucky to be in a position to get what is, in effect, a school boy's dream ... and also to have a wife that, even though she doesn't understand... still lets me do it.
I will be very sorry to let the TVR go, but there is nothing to say that I might not get a Tuscan one day.
As for dream car... a Giallo yellow 348 Spider I guess.

Thinking about this I have two options:
1) Sell in a few years and buy a 997 TT or 996 turbo S if I cannot afford the 997
2) Modify mine.....500 bhp, suspension upgrade, etc to produce a tarmac killing machine, and keep it forever as the cost of the mods would mean I would have to keep it.
Thinking about it now, option 2 appeals the most as the car should become a classic in years to come.
Though the first modification investment is going to be a 'Ride-Drive' session and a day with Don Palmer at Bruntingthorpe to learn the ways of the rear engined set up.
Sorry to hear the 350 is going Lisa.

Really Lisa! So no more TVRs then?
One day we WILL go back to TVR, maybe with a nice Tamora, but for the next year or two it will be a Lotus instead.
Cannot believe we make them honarary Yorkshire folk then this!
Well one day youll be back - for now a matchbox hot wheels will have to do!

Er.. forward planning? Over the past four years, IIRC you folks had three Tivs, two of them brand new (and already placed an order for the next one), right? That's a very expensive hobby - even if I would trade in a simple Eurobox every year and a half or so for the newest model, I would have needed at least an MDs income or two.
So for your current plan:
* Sell the T350 and take a big fat hit on depreciation. Not the best time to sell a newish Tiv.
* Buy a 111R of the proceeds. What are they, 26K to start with? I would doubt you will have a lot of change from whatever the T350 fetches.
* Then at a later date, sell the Lotus and get back into the Tiv fold (with another new car?) More money down the drain - you'll not exactly be selling the Elise at a premium, either...
Sorry, but it all doesn't sound like er, sound financial planning to me. At least not when seen in the long term. If you're planning to get back into the fold in 2-3 years anyways, why not keep your current steed and get something cheap 'n cheerful for daily use to keep the mileage off it and save o maintenance/repair bills (and presumably insurance too - limited mileage policy)? I'm afraid selling the car to replenish your savings account will only help combined with a drastic change in lifesyle, i.e. resort to 'bangernomics' for personal transportation for the forseeable future.

I know The wedding et al has skint us out, we need to replenish the savings account, so bye bye Tiv for a while at least.
Please can we still be in your gang?
It's not as bad as I am making out.
No way could we have a normal eurobox now, not after being used to the power of the Tivs.
Fish also bought and duffed up a landrover, the idea being that he would use that half the week in order to keep the miles off the Tiv, but he loves the power and speed of the Tiv too much to take the Landy
Fish fancies a change aswell, also we are going to take a step back and see just how things pan out now that TVR have been bought. Also the warranty is up on ours in 6 months too, which was also a factor. I think it is more that Fish wants some new plaything, there is nowhere else to go TVR wise unless we throw more money at it which at the moment we don't have. The longest he has ever owned a car so far has been the Tuscan which was 18 months, he gets itchy feet and likes the thrill of researching and trying to get the best deal possible on a marque, whatever it may be.
