Ive got a friend that has a warehouse app 10,000 sq ft that is vacant which lends itself well to lots of uses but I thought about white lining it and having around 50-60 classic cars in there.
Going rate is anything from £15 a week upwards.
Obviously only a thought but I was just wondering how much demand there would be for a car storage facility that would charge £10 a week with extra facilities such as weekly wash, re commisioning, de commisioning, quality servicing and maybe enough space for people to work on their own cars.
It's on the edge of Bradford so pretty central for most of west Yorkshire.

Thoughts?

All depends on area and security. How many locals will know what's in there? £15 a week is ridiculously cheap, then you have to think about manning or 24/7 keycodes.

I pay about £200 a month for mine and it is crippling!

How very, very strange. I just logged on to post a thread in here to ask if anyone knows of anyone with some storage going for a classic car.

For what its worth my suggestion would be:

1) got to be secure, discreet and open decent hours.
2) got to be safe and have somewhere to park/leave another car. I dont want to come to collect my classic and leave an expensive daily driver in a stty part of town for hours or days.

As for costs, if you want to encourage people to use it i would price at:

£10-15 per week for just storage
£15-20 for above plus battery charging and monthly start up
£20-25 for above plus valet on entry and fluid checks
£25-30 for above plus checking for leaks and possibly providing car covers

It's got very secure, behind a locked gate and it's a secure unit within the locked compound. I have 4 cars there and don't worry.

I presume if it was financially viable then the question could be asked about out of hours security guard.

No room at all I'm afraid Ben. Did you have no luck with Marcus Fothergill?

No worries, had to ask!

I did get an agreement in princlple/principal (?) from MF but it is £25+Vat per week with no other service than dry storage.

Ok for very short term but I'm really after doing it year by year.

Father in law suggested looking for local farmers with barns etc. I'm going to look at buying a carcoon and giving someone a year's worth of cash up front and doing it that way. Still looking though...

I recommended a friend who provides/provided storage for 'wildoliver' at a farm. Near Pocklington if that's any use?

Leigh, thanks but it is a bit far from me, probably an 80 mile round trip to Pocklington. Thanks anyway, appreciate it.

I have sent them an email but I suspect they may be a bit far from Harrogate to make it viable.

Fitzy... thanks for the offer but you are definitely too far away!

By August next year 2012. I will have finished a development which will have private secure parking in a newly constructed building in Pannal near Harrogate if helps for 20 cars.

Shame that isn't 2011, it would be ideal.

Paul, your 356 isn't the deep red one that I sometimes see parked up near Vally Gardens is it?

To bring an old thread back to life are there any new storage locations in Yorkshire since this thread started?

Being a collector and having retired recently I have been considering opening a car storage business myself. I found storing some of mine whilst my new garages were built a right pain tbh which started me thinking about it.

If I did it would be between Leeds and York. My own garages are like Fort Knox and a quick search on Pistonheads for my garage build will show my attitude towards cars. I wouldn't do any less for customers cars if I did it.

But is there a demand?

I'm looking to store 2 cars ASAP for the next three months. I'm getting desperate!
