Stuck in Lancaster. Any good roads?

So... I'm meant to be travelling to the Isle Of Man tomorrow afternoon (from Heysham), but there's a good chance that the ferry will be cancelled.

I'm currently in a hotel near Lancaster. If the ferry is cancelled tomorrow, I have two choices -

1. Cancel my day off and work from the hotel

2. Make the most of the day (as the weather looks good) and explore some local roads.

I don't know the area. Are there any good roads worth seeking out around Lancaster? Please don't recommend the Lakes - I have a wide car and hate stone walls
