As the title really. I've noticed a few nice houses in the area but know nothing about it, can anyone fill me in? The properties in question are on Wilmslow Road.

I don't know sorry! Are they places to be near or avoid? I've been told by one person so far that's it's ok, not Wilmslow nice but nice, if that makes sense.

Well, generally it is reasonably good. I was born & bred in that area, and at present live very close, and my Father lives 100 yards from the main Wilmslow Road. A large percentage of traffic now uses the A34 Handforth By-pass, so traffic is lighter than it used to be, but is still fairly busy at times. It is within easy distance of stations, airport, motorways etc, the downside can be aircraft noise if you aren't used to it. I never really notice it, so not a problem.

I drive Manchester City Footballers around, most who live in or around Wilmslow, Prestbury, Alderley Edge, and quite frankly I don't see that Wilmslow or Alderley are anything special, and the area you are looking at is just as "nice" as main road locations in either of those two areas, but for considerably less money, Wilmslow being 5 minutes away by car.

Crime & Anti-social behaviour are no more of a problem than Wilmslow, .... a level that wouldn't concern me.

Wilmslow Road, Heald Green is only a mile long, and the best stretch is the 2/3rds at the Wilmslow end, excepting the final couple of hundred yards. Just as you approach the junction with Stanley Road, at the Waggon & Horses Pub, there is a church which fairly recently became a Mosque, and Friday afternoons can be a problem with traffic, & cars parked everwhere. It does have a very large car park, but because their religion has a far greater following than our religion, there can be a considerable overflow of vehicles!

If you need anymore information, feel free to ask.

Regards, Howard

Thank you, that's a great help. I'd never previously considered the area, currently live in Worsley but traffic and the lack of a train/tram is something that me and my wife are trying to address in our next house. We have been considering the Sale, Timperley and Altrincham areas then more recently Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and further north into Manchester. Heald Green seemed reasonably priced so it's somewhere I'm currently investigating. I've also looked at Baguley but it seems a bit too close to Wythenshawe for comfort!

Yes I would agree with the issue about Baguley, not just from the Wythenshawe aspect, but on the other side you have the "Mainwood" estate which comes under Timperley. Where do you commute to??

Sale, Timperley & Altrincham are all areas which I would personally live, I do have an affection for Altrincham, in particular. What price range are you looking at?? ... Hope that's not a rude question!

At the moment I travel to Fountain Street which can be a trek from Worlsey. In involves either sitting on the M60 to queue then paying a fortune for parking or driving to Patricroft station and getting the train in.

We're also in a transition period I think, my wife has an interview at a school in Ordsall and I have an interview at a place near Knutsford, so its trying to find somewhere in the middle. I ideally want to be a short walk to a tram or train stop and really I think the best place would be within a couple of miles of Navigation Road in Altrincham as we use the train to visit family in London.

Our budget is between £250k - £300k, which in Altrincham seems to get you a decent, but not perfect house

I would think that you could buy a property reasonably close to Wilmslow Station, easy drive to Knutsford, for around that budget, and not a bad drive(assuming she would be driving) to Ordsall. How many bedrooms etc would you need, garage? Detached or semi? I'm around Wilmslow every day at the moment, I'll have a look at whats on offer in that area, ... just give me an idea of what you require.

3+ bedrooms. ideally 4.
I'd love a garage if possible, I should be able to get one for the budget unless it is a character property. I work in Architecture so I prefer places with a bit of history, although our previous house was a 1970s detached which we modernised inside and out so it's not essential.

If you could keep an eye out that would be ideal, I am venturing over to Alderley Edge and Knutsford on Saturday for a few viewings so I'll drive back through Heald Green and have a look around.

i know heald green very well,

my wife has had a hairdressers there for twenty years,

my own personal feelings are that the styal road side is nicer, despite being closer to the flightpath, and you know where!!

the other side is too near the a34 for me, which is very very busy.
there are some smashing sized houses in peel hall, which is between wythenshwe and heald green,

its where i live, they can be bought for 100000 - 220000, so you can take you pick
heald green does have quite a high muslim population my lad gos to school there and i reckon its 50/50, have alook at gatley as well,

one more thing peel hall is getting a couple of metrolink stations very soon, they have already started work on them, so that eill make work a lot easier,

Back again! Still looking at houses at the moment having completed our sale two weeks ago. I must have looked at 40 houses so far without too much success.

I've exhausted most areas, Alderley, Wilmslow, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and have ventured out as far as Congelton and Sandbach as well as Macclesfield.

For whatever reason, maybe as its in the flight path? I've not really ventured too close to Heald Green, but I'm beginning to look at it again and found this: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

For our budget, and size of house it seems good value so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light and tell me what the surrounding roads and area is like and whether the house seems like a good deal at that price.

We had been looking at houses closer to the £270k price range with the hope of getting them down below stamp duty at £250k, but it seems unless you are quick off the mark and the house is decent, its very easy to miss out unless you pay asking price.

Worsley is a nightmare! Have you considered Urmston / Flixton? Good motorway connection and also a decent rail link into town. Maybe Sale (but there are areas to avoid)?

The other one is Monton / Ellesmere Park. Again, close to Eccles for the tram / rail plus right on the M602 which you can jump on to head out to the M61 then M6 for knutsford. Prob a 20 minute journey?

Just some ideas for you.

If you've looked at Heald Green have you considered Gatley? There are quite a few young couples moving into the village and lots of people with young kids, myself included. The Horse & Farrier is a good local pub, the 2 rough pubs have closed, one being replaced by Tesco and the other re-opening at the end of the month as a fancy Tapas Bar, plus we've just had a very nice coffee bar open which is proving quite a hit with the locals. There's a train station and excellent access to the motorway.

Have you considered Poynton, not too bad, plenty of investment going on, family friendly, easyish access to motorways/countryside, 16 miles/30ish mins to Knutsford, less to central M/cr smile.

Lots of caffs, few restaurants, supermarkets etc may be worth a look :-).

Not sure what your looking for but there's 2 reasonable house on our close that may just come in under budget :-)

Wilmslow rd was old A34 and is quite busy around peak time, but which road isn't?
Being one of the main roads in Heald Green together with Finney Lane, which is the main road towards M56 and airport, could sometimes grind to a halt, although the streets there are quite good as you can avoid these roads.

'gleaneagles'- st andrew's is a very quiet rd, got a friend living around the corner.
Not heard her or her family members complain. She says the houses there are very good sizes.

There are a few areas you could avoid in HG.

I'd agree with that. I relocated there from outside the area 4 years ago, and after looking at some of the other areas mentioned I found more for my money in HC. The schools outstanding too (if you've got or considering kids).

It's a bit out of the way but I like that. I've got a nice drive to work through the countryside and the roads are very quiet all the way up to Knutsford or Wilmslow (takes me 20 mins to get to Styal at 7:30am using the A535/A34). It's literally 1 minute from the M6, and as mentioned the train runs all the way into Manchester. It's just a bit on the quiet side, depending on what you like to do in the evenings...

Actually it seems like your even safer in Heald Green as the Scum of society seem to travel in their work http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2038785/Vi...
