Right on my Doorstep (almost)

If anyone wants to organise an impromptu meet-up, let me know.

I have a few places local to the Rally that can accommodate a meeting of motors.

All we need is a time and I can arrange the place ;-)

How close is "local"? I'm intending going Friday evening at the moment and maybe Saturday, but this depends on the weather as I've an outdoor photo shoot in the morning. If the shoot is postponed, then I'll also come along on Saturday.

Local enough to be just within that map on the rally site detailing road closures etc..

Though the meet place I had in mind is actually not shown on the map only a small section of the road is shown.

I'd say given average traffic conditions for the area then from the furthest rally stage at Fleetwood the location I had in mind would be a 15 minute drive time, possibly growing to 25 mins if it's heavy traffic.

Approx 1 mile off the A585 Green route (on the map)

It would also be practically on the route out of the area (A585) so for a post-rally meet it would be better as people can meet up on the way home or if staying over can have a short ride out.

Just a thought anyways.. also are you not on the SCD site? your name seems familiar. :-)

yeah I hear ya, though it's not a lot... My problem is time constraints,, I can really only manage local events and with SCD most are at least 1 - 2 hours drive away and then the same return so makes 85% of them out of reach.

Watch this space (or that space) hehe as I will have a chat to "A" about a few things in connection with our Monthly meet.

I hope you can pop along on the 20th to our Monthly @ Preston.. might bag yourself some nice shots too.

Can you put me on your mailing list please? Unfortunately, I'll probably be over in Yorkshire on the 20th for Riponian Stages Rally http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mantasport/stwilfrids... but wil try and meet up some other time.

Hi Lawrence,

Keen to get to this with my 3 yr old son.

What is the most child-friendly stage where he is likely to be able to see a bit of the action, seated if poss?

thanks

Hi Simon,
Going from last year, there's not a great vantage point at Blackpool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64W5JnLTR28 where you're all sat on the grass bank (unless you take a chair of course). I don't know about the Fleetwood stages as I haven't been to them. It was a lot better a few years ago when the Pontins site was used for a few stages, but since it's closed............

Fleetwood Stages are excellent for spectating. They're run along near the Marine Hall in Fleetwood on the promenade - the promenade is lined with solid concrete walls (About 2ft tall by 1ft wide) and there are banks either side - so even the shortest of folk can get a decent view safely from a (very) short distance atop the banks.

The best spot I've found is here;

Inside the red part, as high up as you can manage. The stage runs along the promenade in front, often with a chicane by the kite shop and then does a loop and comes back through the carpark to the rear.

I didn't even bother leaving my house today.. the weather is rather windy and wet.
Not bothered about the car, I'm trying to shake a cold and going out to stand on the sea front would not have been helpful :-)

Were any of the stages affected by the weather? , As midnight last night saw a weather warning issued for flooding along the Promenade area due to high winds and high tide.

I watched the Prom stage opposite the Norbreck. Chilly, very windy and got sandblasted every time I turned to follow a car drive past but will be there again in the morning. There is also the usual heavy police presence so be careful.

Me too, I stood about an hour of it before heading for home.

Forecast for tomorrow is rain but the wind speed to drop right off.
