Restaurant/B&B in Wigan/Bolton area
Discussion
Hi All,
Having had some great advice on here before, here goes again! I am heading back home to Leyland for the festive period, but it's my wife's bday on the 24th, so I fancy going out for a nice meal and ideally stopping over at a B&B in and around the Wigan/Bolton kid of area. I know lots of nice places nearer Preston (Northcote Manor, Heathcotes etc) but we have friends who live in Wigan that I'd like to invite and they can't stop over. A nice country pub with good food and B&B would be ideal - something like this but about 20 miles south!

Doesn't do B and B - but there's plenty near that do - so well recommended:
http://www.ameliesrestaurant.co.uk/ - near Chorley. Went last weekend and was very impressed with the food and the way in which customers are treated. Not expensive either!
No idea on BnB sorry - never had to book that close to home but a quick google shows http://www.sleepyhollow-uk.co.uk/ which looks ok?

Hugh - sure is decent.
Food is top notch.
Me and the Mrs went last week. I had:
Canapes - Warm dates wrapped in ham and pate toasts.
Starter - lovely salad - chicken, bacon, stilton and cranberry salad.
Main - steak diane with all the trimmings including sauted potatoes, mash with a crisp in it - bizarre
Pud - Italian bread and butter pud.
Wife had similar, 3 and a bit courses - 2 soft drinks each as we'd had a rough night with the kids night before and decided to stay off the beer early on.
All for £41. Set 3 courser @ £18 a head with no obvious deduction in plate sizes!
Highly recommended!
(P.S. Gets booked up quickly apparently - so make sure you book early!)

Seems I'm too late, but The Mulberry Tree in Wrightington is excellent!

Booked! I must be too used to London prices but I'd be happy paying £100 for a meal like that with drinks. God I miss the north sometimes!
Plan to stop at The Beeches in Standish which is a 5 minute taxi ride.
Excellent - isn't far from Standish at all.Plan to stop at The Beeches in Standish which is a 5 minute taxi ride.
When are you up here? If you fancy a pre-meal pint, give me a shout and i'll be there! (Not at the restaurant btw!)

Well Amelies far exceeded expectations - the food and wine was fantastic and the service brilliantly low key. Well worth a visit if you haven't been before. The Beeches was amusingly Fawlty Towers-esque but served is purpose!
Thanks for the recommendation
The Beeches must have gone downhill quite a bit in recent years. Not been for a very very long time and thinking about it not heard anybody mention it for ages but it used to have a fairly high brow reputation once upon a time. Thanks for the recommendation
