Afternoon,

Its my birthday (29) on Friday so having a few beers in Alderely Edge where i've recently moved to then heading out to Manchester on Saturday night.

Anyone got any suggestions of decent bars/areas to drink???
There will be 5 of us, all smartly-ish dressed.
Since it's a birthday celebration we might also require a gentleman's establishment later on - but somewhere classy, not like 'Fantasy Bar' that I went to many years ago in Manc.

cheers
Adam

I've not been in Manchester for a while, but if you want somewhere 'nice' then Panacea would be a good place to follow Alderley Edge. Even if it's just for one drink.

If it's food you want then Bem Brasil just off Deansgate is great for carnivores but you would be in there for a while so you'd need to time-budget for drinking too! The Living Room is pretty good, as are a couple of the places in The Printworks for a drink. I would definitely head for the deansgate area though, just choose wisely.

Room is nice (http://www.roomrestaurants.com/), although small. Taps (http://www.tapsbar.co.uk/home.htm) has a novelty factor and is a nice place, but the selection of beer isn't brilliant. Epernay is similar to Room (http://www.epernaychampagnebars.com/) and also good. I've never been to Panacea, but it gets plenty of praise from others.

If you're looking for somewhere to get a proper beer, Sam's Chop House (http://www.samschophouse.co.uk/) - and the smaller Tom's - is brilliant.

If you end up wanting to go to more of a nightclub, take the bus into Fallowfield from the city centre.

Oh, and on the gentleman's establishment, I've never been there but a friend of mine had 'an experience he'll never forget' in Silks. It's hardly the classiest place though.

I'll second Bem Brasil too if you're looking for food. Amazing experience, but I'd recommend getting there about 5pm and spending at least a couple of hours chowing and soaking up the atmosphere!

Adam - how did you get on?

I'm out in Manchester on Friday night and could do with some suggestions for a group of blokes - mixed age group from mid 20s to mid 40s.

was a decent night,
started at Baa Baa's as that was where the taxi dropped us off.
Then up to Epernay - really nice bar
next was the bar across, Bar38.
Then Room
Then Chaophraya
taxi up to northern quarter...
Soup Kitchen followed by the bar opposite
then finished off with The Victoria Club for dances!

managed to lose my iphone at some point :-(
but aside from that was a decent night, good mix of bars.
will be doing it again soon to try the bars I missed out. I printed out a list of the bars then used google maps on my iphone to find them. a bit geeky but its a big city!
