As the days have drawn in, evenings runs don’t really work. So is anyone up for a North Wales Run on a Sunday Morning?

I have a route of about 4 hours roughly, 200 miles which starts from Mold and takes in the best roads about.

At the last South Manchester Run someone suggested a brilliant nifty program which used google maps, so I have Tomtom and Garmin itineraries or points of interest. Just PM me and I can send them to you. Thanks very much for suggesting it, and sorry I can’t remember who it was.

Is anyone up for a blast out and about?

I think we can decide on the day, will see what people want to do. There is a good stopping point about half way around, with food options. On route there is a farm shop selling crocodile and ostrich, cake shop, smallest transport museum I have even seen, and some sort of viewing platform for the forest about a third of the way around. Lunch at the end is also an option in Mold, as there are some nice places there as well.

I'm interested if I can get the bd brakes working right! Failing that I might be tempted to bring the jag and form a rear guard biggrin

Any chance you can stick the route up on google maps so I can have a gander? Can walk you through doing a collaborative map on google if need be.

If the program in question was Tyre then it was probably me, I bang on about it constantly smile.

I'm very probably in.

Also, Caz, if you want a google map I have a little program I knocked together to put a googlemap link together from an itinerary - I can do that and send you the link to save you the time. (And PM sent.)

This might be of interest too, though I'm sure many have seen it before.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en...

Has a good few Welsh roads listed that might be suitable for inclusion.

Out of interest, how many people are looking at coming so far? Since we had poeple get lost (read that as I got lost biggrin) last time I'm just thinking how best to deal with that since it's a far bigger run this time.

Will put the address and list up very soon. I ahve been on runs that people have walkie talkies. Does anyone who is coming have those? I was thinking of poping to malpins and picking some up?

Might be a good bet, just had a look into push-to-talk for use with people's mobile phones, but it seems to have died a death. Used to give walkie talkie functionality through your mobile phone using your minutes, but you one used minutes when you were talking. Doesn't seem to exist much anymore; would have been useful as it's not got the same range limitations of a walkie-talkie.

Here's another option: There's a programme called Palringo that's avialable on most smartphones for instant messaging including voice communication to individuals and groups, and it works quite happily over 3G / EDGE etc.

Essentially everyone would join the same 'chatroom' on their phones and if anyone became stuck they can either hit and button and shout for help, or message everyone. It's also got location based features so it can tell (assuming their phone has GPS) approximatly where they are in googlemaps; useful if they're accidentally driven into the next village.

Isn't as good as walkie talkies, but then again it's free instead of £30 or so a pop.
