Just booked a long weekend in Manchester for this weekend for my wifes birthday & our wedding anniversary.

We've never been before so everything will be new. The wifes not massively interested in museums (we'd spend all weekend in them if it were up to me!) so i'm looking for other things to do during the day/night. Was thinking of going to the comedy club Friday night but not seen anything else that's jumped out for the rest of the weekend.

Any recommendations where to eat too. We're staying at the Ramada Jarvis on Piccadilly & would like to park the car up on Friday & not use it until Monday so would prefer recommendations within walking distance.

Thanks.

In restaurant terms, you've got Wings (Chinese retaurant) which is pricey, but really very good. Definatly a special meal there.

There are plenty of good restaurants along deansgate, a few up towards Kings Street, just have a wander around you'll find something, although bring an umbrella as the weather is awful at the minute!

Also I can recommend Sams Chop House, or Thomas's Chop House as a lunchtime/ early afternoon venue. Don't judge it from the outside, go in and try it...

If you fancy a bit of live music and a great atmosphere then there is matt and phreds jazz club. It's not usually traditional swing or big band, more sort of new age funk jazz. They also do truly amazing pizzas.

There are tons of shops, Trafford centre, chill factor if you fancy being sporty, there is loads to do. If you visit one museum then i would be heading straight towards the science and industry museum, it is excellent.

Grill on the Alley - meat

Bem Brasil, just off Deansgate if you're a total carnivore. But as others have said, lots of choice foodwise, not a lot really happening for adults this weekend, might be worth a visit to the Comedy Store on Deansgate locks (but don't sit at the frront unless you're VERY quick!).

So tell us then, what did you get up to?

Museum of Science & Industry would have been good. Followed by high tea at The Hilton.
