We're going for a long weekend in Liverpool for our anniversary in a few weeks, staying in the Hilton. We know about the usual tourist spots (that band, the site of Fred's weather map, the submarine museum etc), but is there anything car related we could "accidentially stumble accross". We cant do Oulton park, alas

We dont need tips on trendy nightclubs as Wife is pregnant so we'll just do cozy evening in, thanks but any tips for daytime would be great

http://www.mouldsworthmotormuseum.com/ is approx 30 mins away.

Don't forget Blue Planet aquarium at Ellesmere Port too - not a bad day out, nice and calming for the wife.

For other car stuff, if you want to be really nerdy, you could take her for a ride alongside the Land Rover factory at Halewood, or if you do go to Blue Planet, show her the wonderous sights of the Vauxhall factory - but as far as im aware none have visitor centres open to the public so might be a bit boring!

Other than that - there's very little car-related.

If you do go to the St Helens museum - maybe call in at The World of Glass, http://www.worldofglass.com/ - my Mum works there so it'd be rude not to drop in a free plug!

Approx 25 mins away, and a decent trip out, but yet not quite cars is:

As said, not much car related.

There is...

Duck Tours around the City/Albert Dock (amphibious bus/boat tour)
Maritime Museum (not cars but good for Ships and all things related)
There used to be good displays in the basement of the Liverpool Museum (Vintage cars, steam trains etc). But it got refurbished, now called the World Museum and got "all interactive" so i'm not sure if the displays are still there. The website says noting.

Oh, I don't know exactly when you are going but there is the Southport Airshow on 18th September and the Woodvale Rally (Formby) on 7th August.

Remember those from when I was a kid.

It's not a bad museum now but it's nowhere near as good as it was when I was a kid, far less exhibits out. Caters a bit too much to the lowest denominator & no cars in the basement any more. Worth a wander around though.

Try the Maritime Museum at Albert Dock, Tate Modern also at Albert Dock or the Walker Art Gallery for something more traditional next to the World Museum. All these venues are easy to manage for someone pregnant with plenty of loos & coffee shops.

The Conservation Centre at Queens Sq is worth a look in. Interesting exhibits and an exhibition room (often used for photo exhibits) http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/conservation/

Williamson Tunnels is interesting but not too good for anyone heavily pregnant.

This is a small, but charming museum out in the country. There's not a huge amount there, but it is worth a visit if you are nearby. It is in a former waterworks, which is rather an impressive art deco building.

Apart from that, you are going to have to take your car head off.

The Maritime Museum at the Albert Dock is well worth a visit.

The Albert Dock itself is an impressive place, particularly if you remember the Boys from the Blackstuff back in the 1980s and saw it when it was completely derelict.

You can have an amphibious tour of the city in a DUKW, which includes a sail around the dock as well as a drive around the city. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a ride and sail in a DUKW and is probably worth doing just because you can.

It is also worth making the trip across to Manchester. It will only take you 40 minutes and then you can go to the Museum of Science and Industry.

The Air and Space Hall and the Power Hall are excellent.
