Can anyone tell me what the format usually is for the Gold Cup meeting ?
I cant find any info on either MSV or HSCC websites.
I fancy going but can likely only make it on the Sunday so just wanted to know if there would be much racing on the first day or is it just practise / qualifying ?

Thanks,
Gary

Last year there was racing on both days. I didn't think it was that special to be honest, but that probably won't be a popular view smile

I hadn't been for a few years and felt last year that it seemed like little more than a one day event spread out over the two days (with of course the things you'd most like to see split too). Don't remember feeling like that before so maybe the format has changed?

Saturday is practice/qualifying day, Sunday usually starts around midday, and is an afternoon of racing.

I was looking into attending on one day. Is it not recommended then?

Ignore the naysayers - it's an awesome couple of days of fine historic racing in a beautiful setting. If you regularly attend HSCC meetings, then the line-up is unlikely to be much of a surprise but it features all sorts from Formula Junior to F5000 and you can always guarantee some good scrapping. There are scores of car clubs distributed around the infield and the atmosphere is generally very pleasant. It lacks the glamour of Goodwood's Revival but scores highly on charm and approachability.

It is a good event. I just find marshalling the 3 days hard going.

The racing can be very good, and alot of lovely cars out, which make a glorious sound.

The weekend before is the AMOC race meeting along with intermarque - that also has some lovely cars out on track and condensed into one meet.

I'm getting worried about dwindling grids in AMOC - apparently a recent meeting featured only 50 cars. Hoping to make the journey anyway, always a good day out.

Just checked on the AMOC website - they have cancelled the Intermarque at Oulton and pushed the next race to Castle Combe.
The line-up is
Saturday 21st August Oulton Park

•Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain (90mins Endurance)
•Aston Martin Championship (Classic)
•Aston Martin Championship (Historic)
•Aston Martin 50s Team Challenge
•Pre War Team Challenge
•Pirelli Ferrari Open
•Pirelli Ferrari formula Classic
•Vredestein Jaguar XK Series/Lackford Engineering Austin Healey Championship
•Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge.
•The Great Lagonda Race

The Gold Cup meeting though seems to have a full grid
70s Road Sports,
Historic Road Sports,
Historic Formula Ford,
Classic Racing Cars,
Historic Formula Junior,
Historic Formula Ford 2000,
Guards Trophy,
Classic Formula 3,
Historic Formula 5000 and Formula 2 for the Derek Bell Trophy.

I think I may have to review my options and go on the BH weekend rather than the 21st (or push the boat out and go to both!)

Just learned today that Stirling Moss is racing ! bounce

PLUS, the Group C Silk Cut Jaguar and Le Mans Bentley are gonna be doing some laps. Can't wait - best event of the year at the best circuit.

Well, it does seem a good line-up for the AMOC. I reckon I might make the effort. Will definitely be back for Gold Cup as well. Masters, DTM, LMS and Goodwood Revival the following three weekends as well - what a treat!
