Can anyone recommend a nice area to buy a newish 1 or 2 bedroom flat within, say, 30 mins of Knutsford.

Had a look at a few places in Northwich which were OK but I guess Warrington and Manchester are pretty close, too. Just want a heads-up in case I'm looking at the North West version of Beirut.

Cheers

you need to say how much you have to spend, and while you are there, Knutsford is ok to start with

Knutsford's good,but pricey.

Outskirts of Macc?....all that lovely countryside on your doorstep.

Don't go up the A6 beyond Poynton. Some Higher Poynton is good too.

If you go South there's Holmes Chapel (quiet and small) Sandbach (same)..both are pleasant though.

Cheapest propertys' Middlewich,Northwich,Winsford but a bit out in the sticks?

Pretty much what goldblum said really. I work in Knutsford, commute from Macc. Its about 25mins without breaking any speed records, and a nice enough run too.

Macc and surrounding area is a bit more expensive than Middlewich/Northwich/Winsford, but then its a much nicer place than those three imo. I moved from Middlewich, its got traffic issues, the shops aren't very good, and its over run with travellers. That might sound bad but they are a fkin nuisance. Northwich has some nice areas, as does Winford if you look hard enough.

Holmes Chapel is quite nice, and close to M6 if you want quick access for travelling. 15 mins from Knutsford too. Lymm is quite nice too but I'm not keen on the way its hemmed in by motorways. I'm told you don't really "notice" that though. If you want more built up, Altrincham/Sale are popular with a lot of the folks from work, and decent towns in their own right.

Thanks for the replies so far. I guess budget will be in the region of £100K.

I'd prefer a location North East of Knutsford as I'll be back and forward to Teesside on a regular basis.

Northwich is handy for the M6 at least, dual carriageway straight to it. You'll find cheaper properties on that side of the motorway too.

We've got a lovely three bed house with garage which will be for sale shortly wink In a quiet cul de sac in Warrington - only a bit over your budget smile

With that budget I would have thought that Macc will give you the biggest choice of flats. At least you'll be handy for some good driving roads smile

Mmm not sure you'll get much even in Macc with that budget.

You should try Warrington, you'll get something there.

Search for my threads, I posted a big one on Warrington a while back and ended up renting a lovely place just near IKEA.

Great Sankey is nice as well and from google maps is 23 minutes on the M6 to Knutsford.

We're in Great Sankey - it's not a bad area, good value for money - our main issue is you've got to travel to the opposite side of town for any roads worth a blast on. Hence we'll be moving to the south of Warrington soon smile

I had a quick look on Rightmove and there's a big choice: I don't know the place well enough to know what the locations are like though.

Oh ok.Didn't know.Surprises me that,I know someone who searched for a while in Macc and swore that you'd

need at least 120k for a decent one bedroom.Like you say it all depends on location.

i`m in lymm and for £100k you can get a half decent little flat. The village is only a 10 minute walk and it has lots of restaurants pubs bistro`s etc.it`s not a bad place to live .

and the motorway network is only 5 mins away.knutsford is about 15 mins away along the country roads..nice for a blast on a sunny day..

Lymm's lovely - we often eat out in Lymm and go for a wander around the dam too smile I'd love to get a place there but we can't have the double garage on our budget in Lymm!

Thanks, everyone. Some excellent suggestions there. I particularly like Lymm, NOrthwich and Chorlton? Just need to go and see a few places now.
