Couldnt find a general off topic so I hope heres good

I am organising a Race Night and raffle/Auction at Heyside Cricket club (Oldham) for Marie Curie Cancer Care to run alongside this http://www.justgiving.com/RandG-do-Jordan

Have any of you done summat the same, and if so who is good to approach for stuff to raffle/auction off, weve got a few bits and vouchers, hopefully get a couple of signed items sent to us from Football, Rugby, golf and boxing.

Anybody know any places worth a try, be it a salon, restaurant, anything really.
We are in North Manchester so a nail treatment in west London may not be the best but would be grateful for the offer

Cheers G

I've done stuff like this before.

Whats it for? Not being nosey, but if it's for a kids charity, take a couple of the kids that the charity cares for with you to local businesses and use a bit of guilt to get stuff out of folks. (EDIT - Sorry, just re-read your post - i suppose taking a couple of cancer sufferers is going a bit too far - thing with cancer is that most of us know one or more people affected and as such, i always find myself giving to this worthy cause - im sure you'll have the same effect when asking people - HOWEVER, take a leaflet with you to show the event!)

I used to help run a Cub pack a few years back and we had these and took a couple of cubs with us once and local businesses were throwing vouchers at us - we got a load of letterheads with bosses signatures on.

We got a couple of signed footballs, signed rugby shirt etc, but then locally we got £20 worth of free bets at a bookies, £10 worth of dry cleaning, 1 month free of any newspaper delivered, £20 bar tab, free meal etc etc etc.

A lot of places won't be ready for this so would rather give you a few quid to buy stuff yourself.

Perhaps try Asda too. My mate did the Staples to Naples banger rally and he works at Asda HQ. He spoke to his boss thinking they might've offered a free fill up of petrol, but in the end they picked up the tab for the whole trip, be it Asda, Shell or wherever, and also paid the full cost of insurance for the trip.

Another thing for likes of racenights etc is to give a bit back.

So, rather than asking your local newsagent for a prize, why not 'sell' then a race - £30 will get them the race named after them - get a programme done and have the 'Local Newsagent Ltd Handicap Chase' - will show folks locally that they're doing their bit for the community and you can use the £30 to buy prizes etc.
