Now that ive turned to the darkside and got a PH favorite MX5 - i could do with knowing some decent mx5-friendly roads to hustle it down on glorious days like this!. i found out yesterday that my usual routes are more suited to high-speed and high powered fwd cars, with long sweeping bends rather than anything remotely technical. so felt rather boring in the '5.

I live in prestwich so does anyone have any reccomendations, or even just which direction i should head in and ill go for a random drive!

Cheers

Hi Neo,

I'm just round the 60 from you, and tend to either go round past glossop and that way, especially the road up from the woodhead pass to holmfirth.

Going south, head towards buxton, and take any twisty other than the Cat and Fiddle. A good day out, but poss a bit far for you for evenings.

After that, I'm all ears - I've only lived in Mcr a few years, and any new (especially more local) roads would be very interesting =)

I'm in Prestwich too. For a quick run I just jump on the 60 and come off at saddleworth. You can go left or right from there and theres some great roads in either direction. My fave quick run is; turn right follow the road till the 30 limit in the village, first left, nsl, and follow the road up to the top, past the reservoir. Stop in the car park at the top on the right, a smoke and admire the view, then back. It takes about an hour in total, from junc 17.

I've got a white mk2, let me know if your out for a quick run one day and i'll show you.

That's my litle "got half an hour spare" route too. Exactly as you do it except I don't smoke so just stare at the view or watch the RC gliders for a few mins!

My fave bit is the two banked right handers in quick succession with the stone wall on the right, about a mile before the car park.

I nearly hit a snow drift up there a few weeks ago, all sunny and clear until way up past the res, then all of a sudden a five foot pile of snow blocking half the road. All gone now though. Watch out for a few nasty pot holes, the frost has made a bit of mess road. They are slowly being repaired.
