So, now the powers that be have ruined the Cat and Fiddle road with the daft average speed cameras what are the alternatives? The kind of road I love is a twisty challenging snaking one rather than long straights, or boring fast corners, hence why I loved the Macc to C&F pub stretch so much.

So where else can I go? Suggestions of alternatives in close proximity to Disley much appreciated.

Stick with the C&F but get a timer then limiting yourself to exactly 50mph on the straights go for a full on banzai attempt on the rest of it and aim for an average 49.9mph.

They have only ruined the straights.

True story, drove it on Saturday night and although it has been ruined to some degree, fun can still be had.

...or find a new favourite road and KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. That way it may not become over-populated, frequented by people who crash, and a victim of its own success...

Breaks my heart to say it, but once folk start having accidents the powers that be have to be seen to be doing something. There's still some great roads out there, just cast your net a little wider maybe?

There is an alternative to get close to Cat and Fiddle, come down to the A54 at Bosley, take a left towards Buxton and the road is quite a good blast smile until the 1st Speed camera after Allgreave at the Wildboarclough turn off. Then turn off and go through the top end of Macc Forest and it brings you out at the last double turn before Cat and Fiddle. Enjoy until the Fun Sponges frown put more revenue collectors in.

Try turning off the Chelford-Holmes Chapel road onto the B5392 - it's a great run through to Broken Cross near Macc, a nice and fast rollercoaster which is quiet early or late in the day.

Noo, shush, thats my fave local run! I live in Macc, and use that road to visit mates in Middlewich! If you see a black scooter or black Integra then its probably me biggrin

guys the cat run isnt as bad as it seems as the authorities have cocked up!!!!!!

The camera from walker barn to the cat and fiddle has a problem, in fact a major problem...

There is an alternative road that leaves and joins the road between the cameras(pasted the stanley arms pub) that is shorter and faster(60mph) and if you stay within the speed limits and went through the second camera you would average over 60mph... therefore the averagesped camera is set to over 60 mph(heard rumours set at 71mph)........

Oh dear what a waste of money

I have noticed that too. I have also noticed that after the C&F twisties from Macc to Buxton there is a small cafe on the left before then next camera. You can turn around here and head back down the twisties the other way, this way only passing the same camera twice and no other cameras (i.e. no average speed recorded).

I also had one of those rare moments of driving nirvana at the weekend. I drove up Long Hill (Whaley Bridge to Buxton). It said 'Road Closed' but I decided to ignore the signs and push on looking out for the roadworks. Bliss. A road all to myself all the way up to the last set of twisties through the trees (they are repairing the super tight corner just before this). So I turned around and went up and down again. And again. And again.

Technically speaking the small cafe is bolted onto the side of the Cat and Fiddle pub (small car park). From here you can actually see the second speed camera. The first building is not part of the Cat and fiddle pub but has a large car park and is only seperated by one corner and a small incline (confusing i know). When i went up there the bikers were batting between the Cat and fiddle pub and the first speed camera. I was surprised to see some people were only taking about 10 minutes...yikes... nutters

This is true, I spoke to an "enforcement Sergeant" from Cheshire SCP who confirmed that they were unable to position as many cameras as they first wanted to. The upshot is that if you stick to the speed limit on Ankers lane (60mph) then you'll appear to have averaged 63mph. Hence the 2 cameras between Walker barn and the cat and fiddle pub will have to be set to approximately 70mph. If you go on the long route you will struggle to get anywhere near 70 average (50 is hard enough).

I've not checked for a few days but the last time I looked the IR lamps are turned off. I suspect the system hasn't been turned on....
