monthly mid week drive out..... Woodhead Pass
Discussion
Last year i organised a run out one evening over a little route over and around the Woodhead pass between glossop and sheffield.
Now the weathers turning nice and we are having lighter nights i am going start a monthly run out the first Thursday of each month with but keeping an eye on the weather a couple of days before and possibly moving a week if its going to be pissing it down.
The first run will be on Thursday the 13th of May meeting at 7pm for a 7:30 depart at this pub.....

Please note the postcode on that site wont take you right to the door as we found out last time. Use the google map link in the contact and directions page on there site. If you are coming from the sheffield side then just head toward woodhead pass. When you get to the roundabout turn left and the pub is on the left hand side as the road starts to climb and splits into 2 lanes. If you are coming from the glossop side over the woodhead pass itself then as you come back down the hill on the sheffield side you will see the road is 2 lanes on the other side. Look out for the pub on the right as you reach the bottom. If you get to the roundabout you have gone to far.
The run will be a set route that lasts about an hour and loops back to the starting point. This route will not change each time so more people can get used to it meaning safer hooning.
A couple of things i want to just mention.
Firstly this wont be a balls out run. I would describe my pace as brisk/safe and tend to just coast at a sensible pace once up to speed on the straights so if you are wanting to drive your car to its limits on the public road this probably isnt the run for you.
Secondly the last section of the route is a little bumpy and narrow in places. This shouldnt be a big problem as we've had some pretty stiffly sprung cars come down there with no real issues before but if your worried then you can simply go towards the rear of the pack and go at your own pace as its a straight road with no turn offs. Also i can go and check the width of some of the narrow bridges if people have a wide car.
Lastly I,ve come up with a solution which will help keep us all together and hopefully people wont get lost. Simply make sure that before you take any turn offs that you can see the can behind you. If you can see the cars turning off infront of you but the car following hasnt caught up yet try your best to slow down enough so they catch up before you turn off. There is a junction on the route which can be tricky to get out of depending on how much traffic there is on the road. I will make sure i drive slowly after this point up to the next turn off to try and keep us all together.
That should be about it for now.
Any questions please ask and if you plan on coming pop your name on the list below.

Getting on better with the S2000 now. Felt fidgity when i first got it but im finding if you keep you toe down the car settles and haves alot more grip at the rear than it feel like.
Went out for a run this morning and really grabbed it by the scruff of the neck with no dramas.
What day would suit people. Monday and Friday is a no no for me but the rest of the week is fine.

Ok,
Ill set a date for a trial run.
First one will be on Thursday the 6th of May. Each month we will set a provisional date of the first thursday of each month with an eye on moving it a week if the weather looks poor a couple of days before it.
I will update the O/P with more details now.....
