Track/airfield/play day type things in Lancashire / Cumbria?

I want to explore the limits of my car (350Z) in a safe environment, but don't want to drive for 2.5 hours first.

I've taken previous cars down to Oulton park for trackdays, but its a bit of a mission.

Does any know of anything more local / where do people from the region go?

I'd also like some tuition on how to drive a powerful RWD car properly, as my only previous experience is on the karting track....
