Hi NW types,

I've been hankering after a better weekend toy than my current Boxster, which doubles as my missus' charriot during the week. I was thinking getting back in a 7 on a regular basis would be a good bet, but for that, I need to rent a garage. I'm based near the hope hospital in Salford, but can't find anywhere that this sort of thing is advertised. Can any PH-ers help me out with info / friend of a friend that would do this?
Also, has anyone got experience of such things and insurance, etc?

Thanks in advance

Graham

Cant help you with a garage but if you can't find one, could you find a small area to site a shipping container and store it in that?

Seems like a good idea. Except for the part where it can be put on a truck and taken away (actually, I don't know the mechanics involved).

Although in theory it would work, I live in manchester, second only to Liverpool in car theft... I'm not sure that packing a Caterham ready to go to the docks is going to be low on insurance!

Not many vehicles can lift a 20 ft container and you could always anchor it to the ground but, fair point.

We have about 20 containers on our Widnes site - haven't lost one yet though.

What's in it ? Given the mechanics involved, the contents have to be worth the effort. Some things are easier to acquire through other means.

It varies but you'd need a hi-ab flat bed lorry to pick the container up.

The only thing is that they are quite narrow and so you may not be able to get a car in, if it is one that you need to be able to open the side doors to get out of.

A garage would be the best choice of course.

I would have thought that a wanted add in the local post office might find you a garage

If you cannot find one I have some but they are in stockport (just off the A6) but this might be a bit far

Thanks for that KS - I'll try advertising locally and see what happens. There seems to be loads of garages out Stockport / Marple way, but then every time I wanted to go for a spin would be a 30-45 min drive to collect the car - thanks for the offer though.

Mind, having clicked your profile, if you ever need a spare spanner man for the Marcos at local races let me know, my rate is "free" and I've aquired a strange immunity to gritt coffee full of hypoid =)

I have just been through this process my self and found my self a nice work shop 5 minuet walk from my flat. My advice would be to take a day off and wonder the streets near your home, looking for doors ways big enough to get a car through. When you find some where, find the owner and ask is they will rent you it. As you are there during the day its easy to spot the unused places.
