Hi all,

Are the Wheatsheaf meets starting this month or next? As I could do with a spirited drive.

I was going to post up to start in April - still a bit dark at the minute. You could always arrange a weekend blast though smile

The Wheatsheaf is now a wine bar / Bistro.
I dunno if it's a new owner or if we would still be welcolme?
Anyone know anything on the new set up?

Ah ok - No idea, Boghouse (Scott) used to arrange it - I'll pop up at some point and try and find out - unless Buggalugs (Neil) knows - he knew one of the folk there smile

That'd be great if you're a bit closer than I am - gives us some thinking time if we need to find an alternative smile

I can't do Thursdays any more but would consider other nights - just not Tuesdays. Obviously you cant work round me though!!! haha

Racingsnake - sorry i missed you a couple of weeks back - was out with the kids somewhere - Mrs said 'a guy called Nick or Rick called in an old car' - assumed it was you!

She said to tell you she's not normally in her dressing gown at that time of day - just having a rough time with the pregnancy so was having a lazy hour on the sofa!

Yup Simon that was me I was in the Triumph.
Tell your missus I don't mind meeting women in states of undress.
At least she wasn't in the CO-OP in her Pyjamas like one I saw the other day.
What she does on her own sofas her business lol.

I will call in to the "Bitro" on Saturday and have a chat.

Ah guys n gals it don't look to good.

I went down today and as I got to the door was greeted with a hand written sign "This is no longer a public house there is a dress code - no trainers, jeans or hats allowed!" - So in I went (in my trainers & jeans) and it's very posh!

The Management has changed and the Manageress wasn't in so I spoke to the girl behind the bar who didn't look too chuffed at first when I told her why I was there.

I said "I reckon a car park full of exotic motors might be good for the place" to which she perked up a bit and said ring up and speak to the manageress tomorrow - she might agree.
(I don't think she saw my rusty 45 year old Triumph trackday slag outside lol.)- probably heard it leave tho!

So I will ring tomorrow as they looked very busy as it's Sunday.
If no joy though we can allways go somewhere different plenty country boozers round the area to choose from - Bottle & Glass is ok just up the road etc...

Bottle and Glass would be a good one i reckon. Very friendly little pub is that one.

Otherwise, the Holts Arms over towards Orrell maybe? My mate has that place and there wouldn't be a problem there. Car park's not huge though.

A bit frustrating that.

I remember meeting a girl there when i was young free and single, would've been approx 2000/2001 - and i swear there was only me and her in there that wasn't high on strong drugs. Everyone was drinking water, yet they were taking a lot of toilet trips. Was a total dive.

I think it closed not long after.

Always one to treat a girl right in my youth! (saying that, she chose the venue!). After that, my tactics changed and the Sandpiper became my very own 'Fernandos' of choice! Not too far to drive, but far enough to guarantee that i'd not know anyone in there!

I personally think the car park space should be top of the list of priorities.

It's generally pretty busy at the Bottle and Glass on a Thursday night- we've often stopped there for food on the way and there's no way we'd get all the cars parked.

Is it worth considering the Wiggan Tree at Parbold - they definitely have enough space in the car park - it's a bit more of a food venue nowadays, but I'm pretty sure there's still other car meets ongoing there.

As I'm not local to the area i'm struggling to add any other ideas. Don't really want to be travelling further north than Wheatsheaf/Parbold from here either if it's a regular venue.

Other option is to have a different location/pub each month. You volunteer your area, suggest a pub and a route. Save's one person having to do it all and gets a bit of variation to the meets - have seen it work well for other clubs/meets.

best bet may be to choose a place for April and have a proper chat about how to move it forward then smile

ETA - Asked the mods to change thread title to 'Wheatsheaf closed - thoughts/ideas?'

It would be nice to stay at the 'sheaf but anywhere with drinks and a loo will do!

Wiggin tree is nice but maybe a touch exposed for standing around?
