Hi all,

Long time 'stalker' of these fine forums.

I suspect my wife's Pug 406 Petrol has snapped a cam belt today - will check later when I get the car back. Any suggestions on suitable engineering shops that can skim the head for me if required and possibly supply a suitable head gasket?

Any other suggestions for recon heads or similar - again in the Liverpool (Widnes) area?

Many thanks

I'd reccommend Merseyside Engine Parts & Repair Services. Just having a look at my invoice for a cylinderhead skim, it cost £25.00

Heres the address;

120 Cleveland Street
Birkenhead
Merseyside
Ch41 3RB

TEL: 0151 649 0009

I know its not the most local to you, but is close to the tunnel exit.

My old fella's Series parked outside & the obvious Rover (Probably in need of a new head gasket wink)

Thanks mate - useful info - not too bad for travel as I have another car for now.

Need to get the car home to see if it is even the cambelt. Do you know if they can supply things like headgaskets etc? What about other bits of the head if I need to replace valves etc?

Thanks in advance.

Yes they do supply.

My dads cylinderhead is there currently, requiring a skim, new valves, valve guides, and its being treated to unleaded hardened seats.

All the best,
Tom

Thanks. Would they do a full head reconditioning then if required? Any idea of estimate costs? Its for a Pug 406 2.0 Petrol Turbo 8V.

I have no idea of estimate costs, but they would fully recondition the head if it was required.

I had my short motor 1275 engine block rebored 0.020" (1293cc), Oversize pistons fitted, Reshelled and the Crank Polished, all stripped and rebuilt for £375.00

Dads having the Land Rover head done; £60-70 for all the valves etc & £100 for the unleaded seats conversion.

I'd also recommend Lane Ends Engineering, a bit closer in Prescott.

Google them, they have a website. They did my head rebuild and have a good reputation around here, lots of friends have also used them, good price as well.

Thanks for the info. Havent had a chance to open the engine yet - car is still stranded at Asda but from the looks of my time with the car on the weekend it is certainly related to a loss of compression. Still trying to see if the car is worth fixing - may simply get something else but have a few financial type questions that need answering first.
