Looking to move to this area, Glossop/Mossley way and found some nice houses there in our price range.

Was looking for info on what its like getting into Manchester from there. At the moment I am living in North East Manchester and takes me around 15mins drive to get to the office (Harvey Nics end of Deansgate). I'm guessing A57/A628 is a no-go in the mornings and evenings.

I used to live in Tintwistle and, whilst the area was pretty good (in places) the traffic was an absolute nightmare. At that time I worked mainly from home so I made sure I didn't travel in the peak times of the day. However that didn't always work.
If you leave Glossop by 7.00 am you should be fine however make sure you return by school throwing out time or it's best staying away until after 6.00 pm at the very earliest.

Having said that I would move back in a flash if I could.

Mossley isn't as bad traffic wise but Glossop tends to be the more desirable normally.

ETA: Travel time for Glossop to central Manchester in the morning is around 30mins if the traffic is clear... I always gave up if it was busy so I don't know how long it takes if there are queues up Mottram Moor. smile

Driving to Mottram is awful in peak times.

Mossley is easier.

But if you live in Mossley you need to be able to say 'Baa'.

And if you live in Glossop you need to have naughty thoughts about your Sister!

Thanks for replies guys.

I will be looking to get into work around 8am, so will be leaving around 7, so should be fine?

How is the train from Hadfield? It says only around 40mins to Picadilly, is it usually full?

Don't even think of moving to Glossop or anywhere off the end of the M67 if you don't want your life to be a wasted commuter hell.

I used to be in haulage and it was a waste of time going anywhere in that direction 2-3 hours every morning and night and that was 5 years ago. That doesn't include when they shut the M62 so everyone goes that way.

And no you won't get a bypass before you retire, too many NIMBYS and probably too many newts.

Yup, you'll be fine traffic wise at seven on most days. The train will be less than half full at seven too.

The train back in the evening is never over full too. I always used to get a seat no problems.

I live in Hadfield and, yes, the traffic can be a bit of a nightmare at peak times. If I leave the house at 6.45am its still busy but it moves and it takes about 45 minutes to get to town via M67 / A57 Hyde road. In the evening rush I tend to come off the M67 at Hyde and pick my way through to Matley Lane. It seems a bit quicker than queuing to the top of the M67. Train services from Hadfield to Manchester and back are pretty good and that would be my choice of transport if I had to work in Manchester every day.

On the bright side we are well served in the pub department, The Pear Tree, Woolley Bridge Workers, The Con Club, The Lamp, The Victoria, The Masons Arms, The Palatine, Edwards Wine Bar, The Kingsmoor, The Anchor, The Spinners Arms, The Chieftain, The Peels in Padfield and the Spring Tavern. drink A night going round that lot will make you forget about the traffic. wobble

Pubs are definately good up there... much better than East Manchester. Having said that the walk back up the hill to Tinsel never did me any favours!

Don't suppose the bull is still going at the top of Tintwistle is it? The food there was lovely when the last owners (since Karl) took control.

I used to live in Stalybridge/Mottram, and know the area very well. I can remember when Hattersley was all fields..biggrin

I reckon there are more speed cameras between Ashton and Glossop than anywhere else in the country, seriously.

Best thing (imo) about the area is the lovely countryside of the Longendale Valley/Woodhead, and The Snake Pass are only a few minutes drive away.

Traffic is terrible. I gave up 5 years ago because I couldn't put up with the drive into Manchester.

I live in Glossop, really nice place. Only a few dick heads and I agree traffic is awful getting out at morning rush hour. There are some places to avoid like anywhere but if you wanna message me where your thinking of moving to I will tell you what its really like.

Living in Hollingworth does mean you end up sat in traffic each day. In the evening though i tend to come of aswell at Hyde and take Matley lane, meaning you miss the long queue at the end of the M67. Mind you in this weather you do end being stuck at home.
