I proposed half way up the Eifel Tower (Louise didn't want to go all the way........no comments pleaserolleyes). Or, you could get in touch with an outdoor catering company to set up a table & chairs with candles in a park, where you'll just happen to be strolling through........plenty of brownie points and maybe something else wink

Go to Windermere or one of the quieter Lakes and hire a boat? You can hire one of those crappy electric ones for about £30, much fun can be had 'drifting'. hehe

I took the missus-to-be to Paris for her 30th birthday with the intention to propose at the top of the tower. Despite a 6am flight and getting to the foot of the tower at 9am, there was still a 3 hour queue in 30c heat...

Ended up proposing on the hotel balcony a few minutes before the England v Portugal match in the 2006 world cup - she spent the next two hours squealing down the phone to all her mates, I watched the game! Job done.

To be fair though - it's not where you do it, but how you do it. I'd second the Lake District option though - there are some nice cosy B&B's with great restauranats nearby to whisk her away for a night.

I'd say don't bother flying if it's only going to be a day trip. No-one needs all that hassle. 2 hours flight each way plus check in plus taxis, parking.... horrible and tiring.

Nice hotel nearby, lakes perhaps? How about hiring a nice car and letting her drive you up there in it? Or for a larger budget, find a small heli-operator and get them to drop you off somewhere nice.

Cheers,

FT.

Thanks for all the suggestions- off to google them.

Not alderley edge though as been before- I'm scared of heights so too chicken to go to the edge rotate
