Basicly a copy of one I put in Scotland forum - making one last trip up north in early June - M6 - A/M74 - M8 .
Any info on which bridges the vans like to hide would be appreciated .(things like junction numbers)

Lancashire is a bit nazi about speed and the M6 in that area can be either clear or infested with vans and their helicopter.
On the good side the vans tend to be on well sighted bridges so just keep the old minces peeled.

Cumbria has a couple of vans but I've not seen one on the motorway yet but they do say they stake it out sometimes.

Try using their websites to see where they're going to be on the day.

Cumbria seems to be the only section of the M6 where the police cars sit on the entry slip roads with speed guns.
Shap is a usualy haunt for this.

The scamera vans usually sit on any of the bridges.
I think Cumbria still have 4 of these vans.

It's the bridges that they've started using where they can hide I'm interested in .
But Lanca$hire don't show any enforcement anywhere near the M6, and Cumbria don't even show the fixed/mobile sites, though I have heard they do tend to go up on the bridges .As for slip roads - police have been doing that for years - tend to slow down a bit till I can see up them in my mirror if road is quiet.

I've spotted a few unmarked cars on the M6 in Lancashire recently and you get the occasional story about a talivan popping up now and again.

Theoretically the Cumbria "safety camera" partnership can set up on any M6 overbridge and I'd therefore be careful when travelling through our (otherwise lovely) county. Having said that, since they've started operating "anywhere" in the county I haven't seen as much of them - only spotted a van once on the M6 in the last 2 years and that was on one of the signposted bridges.

A74(M) is treated like a race track by the locals - at quiet times the vast majority of traffic seems to be doing 90-100mph. Dumfries and Galloway talivan do ply their trade along there but they're still honest and publish when they plan to be there on their website, operating from well-signposted locations (IIRC the bridges at the odd-numbered junctions and a couple of others around Moffat). You need to watch your speed up there because everyone else is going so fast it's easy to get carried away - better to just stick the cruise on IMO.

Never in past two years saw a van on A74 (M) - BUT at Abinton -sort of merge point A74(M)/M74 -seen a van trying to hide on Lanark side of bridge several times - SO NOW ,either call in at services to have cuppa(AND strange how after this point ,I get mixed up between my wipers and headlamp flasher) or go past sub NSL -because despite all GUIDELINES - once you've seen him -he's had chance to get a lock on you .

Quite often police around M6 J31, (motorway police base just off there) I`ve seen unmarked blue S60 and unmarked silver V70.

Northbound:

Scamera van recently back at J30 where the M61 goes over and then joins the M6, sits under the M61 as you round the left hand bend.

Bridge immediately after J34 seems to be a favourite for ANPR, for which people anchor up. So the cameras can get a better read of their plate I presume.hehe

Between 35 and 36 first bridge after the services, recent scamera van. Thought they had me but never heard anything. First time I`ve seen it there though.

Bridge at J36 Occasionally marked v70.

I turn off there, so sorry can`t be of any help after that! smile
