I'm going to be at the Preston Mariott next week. Does anyone have any recommendations of places to eat in area? Not fussed on food type, good pub grub is as good as fine dining.

Have had suggestions that Whitewell is nice, which is around 20min drive away.

The Plough in Euxton is very good, does an exotic mixed grill with kangaroo and widebeest and some other meats.

The Sagar Premier is a good curry house, just at Clayton-le-Woods/Walton Summit, also the Cavendish Arms at Brindle, and the Indian place up at Samlesbury, across the road from the New Hall Tavern (name escapes me!)

The Italian Orchard is only a couple of minutes away. Fantastic Italian, and not expensive either.

And across the road from Guys is the Roebuck Inn. Fantastic pub food.

Forget Guys and the Roebuck - head to the ship in elswick or the cartford inn IMO

Cartford

Ship

Try the beer in the Cartford, it is brewed in the micro brewery out the back

Best curry is 1/2 mile towards Garstang (the Gate of Bengal) at the Broughton traffic lights
The Sparling at Barton (a couple of miles further)is a very good Gastropub
I too like the Ship @ Elswick
Twelve Restaurant at Thornton is excellent, and good value for a real restaurant
Northcote Manor is probably the best in the area-about half an hour up the A56 towrads Skipton..

Ofh and the Ship now has a sister pub.. The Horns inn at Churchtown.
Just keep on up the A6, turn R onto the Fleetwood Rd (?A566?) and it's about half a mile on the left
Not been there yet, but alledgedly very "Ship-like"
The Cartford arms also does good food...
That's a bit further up the Fleetwood Road..(but you need to turn off to the R)

^^^^Horns inn^^^^

RE: Horns inn - very nice food, not the best place. Needs doing up, inside looks like any old pub from 20 years ago, that didn't stop me going there twice this last month though.....

Inn at Whitewell is nice, but try The Three Fishes - really good local pub food, slightly easier to get to as well. Run by the same guy (Nigel Haworth) who has Northcote Manor.

I've heard good things about the Sparling at Barton as well but haven't been there.

Or the Highwayman Inn at Nether Burrow also owned by Nigel Haworth.

True, or the Clog and Billycock (might actually be slightly closer to Preston thinking about it) hehe

I normally go to the Highwayman as it is closer to Lancaster but they're all equally good.

If you are at the Marriot, you can walk to Burlingtons which is OK and across the road from Burlies is the Gate of Bengal which is good. About a mile and half away in Barton is the Sparling which is very good but just a copy of the three fishes/Highwayman/C&B.

There is Time in Longridge which is very nice and Victorias India which is good but about to close due to credit issues. I have not eaten in the Marriot for a while but it used to be Ok.

If you turnup on a night when they're in a good mood. Always been something wrong when I've eaten there, wouldn't dream of going again.

Been to Burlingtons a few times now. So far, the quality of the food has been brilliant. Granted, you don't get a mass of food on your plate, but I haven't been able to fault it. Plus, it's a very pleasant place inside.
