As we know speed kills, so the good people of the council (they work for us you know?) have decreed that we are not capable to drive these roads safely so they are kindly going to lower the limit at which we can drive.
I am sure as an incentive they will post their quango camera vans on said roads which will send us pictures (at only £60) to remind
us if we digress their newly imposed lets pick a random number out of the air and call it a speed limit.

Not sure when the limits change, but watch out.

Many thanks for posting this up. If anyone "in the know" could find out when the authorities intend to implement, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A683 Lancaster / Morecambe Bypass (Morecambe, Heaton with Oxcliffe) from 50mph to 60mph

The above makes me laugh. a dual carriageway which nobody uses is being reduced from 70 to 50, yet a dangerous single carriagway road (which i use every day) with numpties overtaking several vehicles at a time is being increased to 60? Lots of HGVs use this road going to the port, and there have been several fatal accidents! Doesn't add up! lol

Just found this thread. Some of these revisions are just crazy! furious

Why? Most of this is through open countryside?

said:

I can't imagine doing 40mph on this bit...50 seems about right.

said:
A6 Lancaster Road & Main Road (Slyne-with-Hest) from 50mph to 40mph
50 is already too slow!

said:
A6 Slyne Road, By-Pass Road (Bolton-le-Sands) Main Road (Carnforth) from 40mph to 30mph
Fair enough, it does seem a bit odd doing 40 past houses and businesses.

said:
A601(M) (Warton) from 70mph to 50mph
I hope this is only referring to the single carriageway part.

said:

Good! The road is not dangerous, only the people driving on it. Hopefully there will be less of a speed differential between cars when the speed limit is increased.

I was cycling along here today and all the speed limit signs are currently wrapped in black plastic.

I can't see them raising the limit, so they must be about to switch it 40mph.

I've noticed that too. frown

Also, Greyhound Bridge is now 30mph but that seems to be universally disobeyed...

To be honest, at home time, that place is busy, so I wouldn't have a problem if was a 20mph limit when lights are flashing set up.

I don't understand the need to reduce Greyhound bridge.

I don't understand why they've reduced the A6.

Also, I missed the speed limit signs coming out of Slyne towards Lancaster and what the entry signs as you approach Beaumont bridge as I cycled in and it was pissing it down.

If the ones coming out of Slyne are covered up, and all the repeaters are covered, then currently, that whole section is a 30mph due to street lighting. That would be easy pickings for the Police.

Just a heads up, the A6 through Slyne, speed limit signs are now uncovered 40mph. It felt slow going along there today.

If they take the A601(M) to 50 I might have to go on some sort of Falling Down-style rampage frown I use it twice a day and anything less than NSL is laughable. The A683 is a road often feels like it should be a 60, admittedly when I use it it tends to be pretty quiet and 50 feels painfully slow.

I'm a hypocrite because I never do the speed limit on the A683. I use it every day because I work at Heysham 2. It's too easy to creep(!) above the limit.

Drove along here last night. By the time they're finished, it looks like there will be no NSL left on the A6 between Preston and the Cumbria border..!

Hopefully it'll just be the single carriageway bit!

Rare you can do NSL along there at the moment, too many OAP-driven Honda Jazz etc. I've noticed everyone seems to think 60 is too fast on there, people always break to way below the limit to pass the cameras there.

Heysham Bypass is now 60mph on the section between Wickes Roundabout and the new small roundabout near the electricity sub station. Actually it might be from the roundabout you turn off to go down to the Golden Ball pub but not 100% sure.

It's now increased from 40mph to 50mph from the new small roundabout until the end of the bypass at Trumacar School roundabout.
