Hi,
Some of us from "down south" are coming past your way at the end of July on our way to doing an 850 mile lap of Scotland - we'd really like to stop somewhere for lunch on Saturday 25th July around the lakes, can anyone suggest a suitable venue?
Thanks!

A bit off the beaten track - come off the M6 and take the coast road (A595 - nice driving) to get to

King George IV at Eskdale.

The food is OK....but

clicky

Take the road opposite towards Beckfoot. It may be a little congested for a spirited drive - but it's well worth it.

Might be a little too far off the beaten track - we've got almost 500 miles to cover that day if we go through Bowness and then rejoin the motorway...

Thanks though.

Sportsmans Inn in Troutbeck. On A66 (off J 40 M6) on the way to Keswick. Really easy to get to, large car park. Only been for a drink there but the food looked good.

Check their opening times - we stopped there on way north a few months back and they weren't open frown

  • Edit - crap grammar!

The WaterMill Inn at Ings is excellent. Webpage Here
On the A590/A591 14 miles from Junction 36 off the M6, before you get to Bowness which will be very busy at that time of the year if it's a nice day.

I'll second the Sportsmans suggestion. Good scran and plenty of car parking space. About 5 mins from the motorway.

What about the Kirkstone Pass Inn? A few years since I've been but no trouble parking, good roads, excellent views and a decent loop back to the M6 at Penrith if you're heading back that way?

Looking at the map it's going to be the Watermill or Kirkstone Pass as the hot favourites so far...

In fact i think it's going to be the Watermill for lunch and then a drink at Kirkstone Pass on the way through biggrin
