Can fully recommend this

http://www.dongiovannis.co.uk/default.asp

It is a quarter of a mile from Deansgate, along Peter St, across St Peters Sq, and into Oxford Road, you are there. They have moved into new premises, and although I haven't been into the new one, You will find the ambience, service, the food & prices all exceptional.

Let me know if you do go, & how you find it, Howard

^^^^^ I went to the old one a couple of times a few years ago and remember it being pretty good. Good service... I don't remember what I had food wise but that's probably a good thing. i.e. it wasn't bad enough to burn it's self into my memory hehe They had some nice wine IIRC.

Leonis is nice food, but the place inside isnt great. Bella Italia is your usual run of the mill italian food.

No doubt people will be on here soon to brag about San Carlos, but it isnt great imo.

As said above, Giovannis is probably the best choice.

I think carluccios in spinningfields is great, but I suppose everyone to their own.

Don't think they do champagne in there but the lasagne is fantastic.

Not been there myself but a guy at work who always gives great restaurant recommendations raves about Carluccio's in Spinningfields as the best Italian he's been to.

Croma is good & reasonably priced. Located just off Albert Square.

Piccolinos directly opposite is good too but tends to be more expensive, they do have a cracking bottle of Gavi on the wine list though!

Fellicinis on Oxford Road is worth a visit too, they've currently got a 25% off offer on too.

Food in San Carlos is good, but the service can leave a lot to be desired.

Croma is nice, or the one opposite, which I'll remember the name of later.

I agree, the food is good, but not great like a lot of people brag about.

Croma on the other hand, I find is nicer. Like the feel of the room more too. And the one opposite is Piccalinos

I don't think you can beat Piccolinos. It gets my vote every time!

Jamie Oliver is bringing one of his "Italian Kitchen" restaurants to Spinningfields I hear!?!
