Have bought a bathroom, tiles etc and need a quote for fitting and some other associated plumbing work too. A local guy was supposed to be coming to quote today but was a no show. How on earth am I supposed to find a decent tradesmen? I can't get a reliable recommendation off anyone I know.

Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who will quote to do a quality job. The room is nothing fancy but it must be done right. I'm in the Oldham/Rochdale area.

I really hate having to find tradesman for stuff on the house. It just feels like a massive lottery. I can feel my heart rate going up just typing this. I try to do a lot of things myself and may end up having a go at the bathroom yet, if i don't find someone I feel I can trust.

What do you need doing? Surprisingly easy to do basic plumbing work if you have the tools. Did my bathroom and kitchen with surprising ease (few pipe changes, odd joint replacement).

It's not for lack of skill I want a plumber. With it being the bathroom, it needs to be done quick. I can either do it quick, or do it right, but not both! I would not be in the good books if I had the bog out for three weeks!

Thanks for the response chaps, I've got three people coming to quote from www.ratedpeople.com. See how I get on with these.

Of the three people that came to quote from www.ratedpeople.com , one was a let down but two seemed promising. I was a bit skeptical of this web site to start with, but within two days, three tradesmen had contacted me and all turned up to look at the job.

The first guy seemed very keen and knowledgeable when he was here, but put in a frankly ridiculous price and said he didn't fancy the tiling. I think he deliberately priced himself out.

Second chap was ok, no complaints, but didn't stand out.

Third guy, very friendly and made quite a few remarks about the job which made me feel he had good attention to detail etc. He's very local and price was about what I expected too. The only slight negative was that he said the job would take 8 working days to complete.

I've also got a quote from a guy who my father-in-law knows which was similar to guy three above.

Hoping to get the job done with plumber three next month. If he can't fit it in then the chap recommended by the father-in-law should be able to do it. Job got delayed as Wife wrote her car off and we had to but a replacement.

I'll let you know how the job goes once it's done.

If you have an problems or need another quote give me a shout.

One of my neighbours is a (self employed) plumber and is very good.
He's on holiday at the minute for a couple more weeks I think but I can put you in touch with him when he is back if you want/need.

He is in Oldham btw.
