Not much advice to give. You'll need transport, a tent and some cash.

Best to team up with like minded folk with your own endurance/booze patterns.

Have been a few times, didn't bother last year - it's getting to be more of a pi$$ up than watching the racing and the cars. Worht going for the experience - the drive there and back is interesting. Speed ferries are generally the cheapest.

Same for me. The 24 is great but I prefer the more chilled Classic - it's busy enough but you can get up close with the cars in the paddock smile

It's always been a piss up, but sadly last time I went there did seem to be a much larger proportion of people there just getting pissed and acting like tts, no interest in the racing at all or even in cars in general, just getting wkered. Not been for a few years for that reason, hopefully somewhere else will become the in place to go and get pissed or they'll all get 'credit crunched' and decide a field closer to home is a cheaper place to sit and drink all day. Until then I too would like to try the classic though.

Been for the last three years; not going this year.

It's starting to become full of drunken louts who don't care for the racing or the cars. The campsites are car heaven but there's a lot of snobbery if you don't turn up in something interesting.

It's good to go once but its time as the petrolhea's mecca has gone.

If you like drinking and have a passing interest in cars and breaking French laws, then why not?

I'm off again this year from Morecambe mate. 2 car fulls of us smile

It's a right laugh, you'll enjoy it. The drunken louts are no worse than what you would expect at any other large sporting event... just go with an open mind.

I was getting annoyed with people outside Bleu trying to make me do a burnout in an Evo, but, they just needed educating!

We're all set for '09. Tickets sorted, ferry booked etc, will be on Bleu.

An earlier post mentioned Speedferries. They've gone to the wall. Norfolk Line seem cheap.

Don't worry about the comments about it being a piss up. Some people do go for that but there are still plenty of enthusiasts. The exchange rate plus credit crunch might weed out a few of the less committed this year too.

Hi Kosta

Early Wednesday (6ish) Norfolk Line, Dover - Dunkirque. Back on the same route, Monday lunch. Normally used to a fast blast down there, but this year we'll be slip streaming the trucks in our borrowed 60mph Hymer.

Slightly off topic, but we used Norfolk Line last May for a Franco-German trip sailing Dover -Dunkirk. I think it cost £39 for 1 car/2 adults return. Excellent staff and organisation, no coach trips or school kids. Recommended.

We did Wednesday 0200 in 2008. I drove the Evo none stop from Morecambe to Dover apart from fuel... and then the same on the other side. No sleep on the boat either!

Alcohol helped keep me awake after i had arrived!

We are wanting to try Portsmouth-Le Havre this year, but i expect because some of the lads aren't high earners they will want to go on the £28 return route again.

Keep an eye out for a dirty Red Evo 8 on Bleu! lol

I actually prefer the longer drive, shorter crossing, makes it seem more of an adventure to me. I've even done Calais - Le Mans avoiding all the tolls once.

Because we have been able to borrow a motor home this year, we're taking two days to get to Le Mans but once we're there we'll be equiped for maximum creature comforts. I have already bought a bigish genny, and am on the look out for some Ebay satelite equipment so we can watch the race whilst eating our tea.

I have bought two camping plots to make sure we've plenty of room for the camper, which considering there is only two of us, might be a bit excessive.

Anyway feel free to call in if you see this.....

Oh yes, that really is three wipers, a side exit exhaust and an air horn. I'm hoping to get away with "decorating" it a bit too .

If you bring a beer we might even let you charge your mobile.
