I've been travelling to and from Chester quite a bit lately but this weekend I have a full 3 days to spend. Are there any must-see sights or events in the region (120 mile radius or so from Chester) that would appeal to a PHer? (I've been to Oulton Park already) Or are there any stunning bits of scenery in N. Wales that would be doable in a day?

Thanks.

Horsehoe Pass is a good run if you have a decent car / bike.

Wales is full of good roads, but full of psycho plod.

Anywhere around A49 - A574 is great for driving. Careful though, I almost died at the weekend because some of a farmer left grass on the road. Practically written my bike off.

Yes, five European Cups at Anfield. :-) Won by talent and not bought as well!!

Apart from that I would take in the Horsehoe Pass, and then do the EVO triangle, should be enjoyable even in a Beetle.

There is some good racing on this weekend on Bank Holiday Monday at Oulton.

There are great roads around the Cat n Fiddle pass area, and you are a good two hours from the Lakes etc, but I would imagine most roads will be busy on a Summer Bank Holiday.

What type of things interest you?

I'll be in Liverpool on Sat morning so I may well visit Anfield. (Was there once before with some friends, big 'pool fans, who were not impressed when I expressed disappointment with the size and atmosphere of the legendary Kop that day. When I brought them to Parkhead they understood...but I do suppose an old Firm game is slightly more exciting than Liverpool V Sheffield Wednesday)

I think this Horseshoe Pass will have to be tried out. If I could fit in with something aviation or old castle related it would make for a decent weekend.

From Chester, take the A483 South, drive the Horseshoe pass, stop at the Pendorosa Cafe at the top, go onto the EVO triangle, then head to Betsw-y-Coed for a stop there.

Then you are not far from Conwy Castle, and you can come back via the A55 or some B roads.

So, A483 South, A539 West, and onto A542 Horseshoe Pass.

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|chester#map=...

Left onto A5104 West, left onto A494 South, right onto A5 West.

Turn right at a Tyre Fast Fitter type place, B4501 North (fantastic road, part of EVO triangle), make sure you get the right one, you go through a little village and narrow gap.

Do this road, bear left and turn left onto the A543 South West (another side of the EVO triangle). Back to A5 turn right onto A5 West, into Betws-y-coed.

Then you can go North to Conwy, or A5 NW to Anglesey, have a look round the racetrack and then back onto the A55 to Conwy.

If it's nice stop in Llandudno.

Some of the B and A roads North of the EVO triangle and Horseshoe pass are great, watch out for cameras and mobile traps on the A5 and main A roads, and unmarked Police bikes on other roads.

That should give you some suggestions, you could even head for Snowdonia, but it's headign you into the good areas!

Hope that helps.

If you're bored at any point you're welcome to a cuppa in Warrington.

You may have to assist with fixing broken cars though! lolwink

Thanks Scottie and everyone for the suggestions!
This morning was spent in Liverpool; this afternoon spent in an impromptu house-hunt in the Wirral. Tomorrow will be decided over a few beers in Chester tonight (going to Manchester way seems likely) but Monday will be the Horseshoe Pass smile
