I was the victim of an armed robbery at home just over three weeks ago. Fortunately, I was the only one at home when it occoured as my wife was taking grannie out for tea and youngest son was visiting friends in Edinburgh. During the raid by four thugs my life was threatened and they got the keys to the safe and stole nearly all of my wife's jewellery. I'm 60 next birthday and as there were four of them with clubs and only one of me I felt that discretion was the better part of valour. However, a bloke in the same locality a few days later who refused to hand over the keys to his safe got some of his fingers chopped off! The end result is that I've sold my Bentley GT as Bib thought it might be sending out the wrong message and I've just spent the thick end of £8k (yes I did say £8k) updating our security system. Here's the bizarre bit. I now have CCTV monitoring my home. Consequently I have had to put up a sign at the end of my drive warning people that my home is monitored by CCTV. If I did not do this any future burglars could sue me!!!! I am fxxxing angry!!! Now I have an argument with the insurers who were only too keen to take the premiums but are extremely tardy when it comes to paying up. I've worked damned hard all my life and I'm now seriously pi55ed off. Rant over had to get this off my chest.

That's a horrible thing to happen frown I hope it all gets sorted out with the insurance company quickly. As for having signs up about your CCTV system, that's a ridiculous state of affairs, but you have to wonder whether they would actually be able to sue you and get away with it if that situation arose?

Really sorry to hear this too. I've heard of many ridiculous situations when the thugs could actually sue the victims. But getting sue for not displaying the cctv signs...this is taking the fcuking piss furious

I just hope this sort of terrible things would happen to everyone one of those do gooders whom pass the law which protect the thugsfurious

Are you jinxed? There was that episode on a Spanish motorway and now this. Maybe you should write a book.

And more swearing in the next rant. I think you're entitled.

Glad you're ok.
I wanted to put broken glass/razor wire on top of a fence to deter some unsavoury characters but couldn't in case it injured them in their attempt to rob/attack/murder me and my family. The law is strangely geared to protect the bad.

It's very said when people feel they have to sell things they
have worked hard to pay for ! The criminal justice system does
seem to weighted against the victims in this country. I have 4
night vision cameras at home hooked up to hard disk recorders
and a server back up. I have no warning signs and will take my
chances with a jury should I get sued. Get yourself away on holiday
for a few weeks if you can and try to forget about the scumbags.
All the best.

Neighbour has moved! However, I've ordered a new car. It's a Toyota pick up truck with a mount for an automatic weapon in the rear. Well it would be nice! spin

Kinnel Clive. Do you not have a shotgun? No seriously you did the right thing not trying to retaliate mate these little bastards are prolly serious. Lets face it none of us are getting any younger and you would have trouble sorting Pwiggy out biggrin Pity about the Bentley though I liked that car. If you need a ride in a proper car just give me a yell and Ill take you fer a beer one night. Keep yer chin up fella why not write a few nasty letters to the one eyed pillock I find that usually helps my anger.

I'm not an expert, but are you sure that this is correct? I thought the sign thing was only if the cameras looked at places frequented by the general public? (I'm probably talking goonads though biggrin)

Edited to say: private dwellings are generally exempt?

Unfortunately, you have to post the warning! My understanding is, and I'm open to being shot down in flames by any proper leagle beagle who reads this, is that you have to post a warning as it's private property but in a public space you don't.rolleyes

fcuk the warning cctv in operation, Put the cctv signs up after the event, it doesn't pay to be honest when it comes to the law anymore, you have to play them at there own game, This country is bo11ocked now the law is for the criminal, what happened to your neighbour who lost a couple of fingers can he still work and what sort of compensation will he get, If he had assulted one of them, protecting his property he would probably get 12 months, but if they are caught because they come from a single parent family or were abused, they get a warning despite your neighbour loosing his fingers, on a lighter note was he any good on the piano ?

Rant over!

Very sorry to hear this. Having been carjacked at knife-point in the carpark at John Lewis in Cheadle, I can share some of your concern. Sorry to hear you had to let the car go to. It makes my blood boil to think fo the scum that do this kind of thing and keep getting away with it.
