im going upto the highlands at the end of next april for a 4 day driving holiday and just trying too sort accomadation out but wondered if there was any interest from you guys/girls joining me?

ive been in contact with a nice lodge in fort augustus next too loch ness and depending on length of stay amount of bookings we can get some group discount.

they charge £50 a day per person as it is now so for 4 nights we will be looking under £200 per person and ill try and nogotiate the best rates possible if people are interested.

im looking at doing this route at least once while up there

http://www.stevecarter.com/bestuk.htm

and will involve sampling the best roads in the uk like this

http://www.stevecarter.com/picaday/roads.htm

so whos up for it?????

I have done the Highlands tour for 3 out of the last 4 August bank holiday weekends. Up past Glasgow, then A82 at side of Loch Lomond, onto Glen Coe, Fort William etc, and normally stay in Aviemore. Drive round Loch Ness etc.

These are some of the best roads I have ever been on. You need decent weather though to enjoy the scenery and roads really, perhaps doing it later might be better.

I would be interested though. If you do August Bank Holiday the Scottish schools go back earlier than us, so prices drop for this weekend which is normally nice weather as well. I stayed at Aviemore Highland resort, it is great, loads of facilities and safe parking. Prices where £120 each based on two sharing a room, and that including Bed, Scottish breakfast, and evening meal FOR THREE nights. Did not include alocohol, but they where great prices on this usual offer and a great base.

i cant do august as im planning a euro road trip over the alps for the begining of sept and wanted too catch it out of season so the roads are too clogged with pesky tourists.

its a chance with the weather but it is any time of the year in this country, especially up north. look at the weather at the min and its nearly november.

rain or shine it will still be a great trip though and a nice break away from the grind.

consider yourself added neil.

I'll be interested. Did it this year and last with the mr2oc, but the crowd's getting a bit young for my liking. We stayed at a fab hotel Cluanie Inn where the staff couldn't do enough for you.

cool,

names added too the list.

ive got a few places in mind at the minute all coming back with decent rates so after christmas ill put more info up about the places we could stay at with more accurate figures once ive got a better idea on numbers then we can pick where we want too stay but it will deff be under £200 for the 4 days per person which i think is decent.

i did find a link for an awesome looking place but it only sleeps 4 and works out at around £600 for a week (which devided by 4 isnt too bad)

lots of choice for accomadtion around that price really so all depends what we want from the location.

If you do that route it is well worth going a bit fruther north than Ullapool up to Kylesku bridge or Lochinver, the roads and scenery up there are amazing.

Alex, have you asked Steve for ideas on accomodation? He may have contacts as he's in that area.
