I went into Manchester this afternoon, and when I left I drove through Moss Side, along Princess Road. The time was around 4.15 or 4.30pm, and the traffic progress was slow through the traffic lights at Platt Lane, when I saw a "Black hooded scrote" open the drivers door of a stationary car, grab something, which I assume was a mobile phone, or Sat-Nav unit, and run back to a bicycle which he had hidden in the opening to a passageway on the right of Garswood Road, which is the road just before Platt Lane. He then cleared off quickly, and I went left into Platt Lane and then left again into a "Square" to find him appearing there! He was laughing, and obviously though he was very clever, as he went off down the next passageway.

He was black affro/carribean, aged 15 to 20, very large build, and around 6'.0" - 6'.2". He was wearing a black hooded top with white stripes.

He gave me the impression, that what I witnessed, was well rehearsed, and I'm sure that was his regular "patch", so beware, and keep your doors locked.

Ive seen similar happen on Regent Road in Salford near the Shell garage. One scrote was hanging about in the middle of the road and walked through the cars when the lights were on red looking inside them for something to grab.A couple of other helpers were on bikes nearby watching and waiting. At the time I drove lorries and yelled to the scumbag that I knew what he was up to and was calling the police. He just laughed at me and told me to f-off.

Any distinguishing features?

As a lot of these people are armed with various weapons I would not challenge them as insurance pays.

Sorry if that sounds patronising but I would rather not see anybody getting hurt.

This is nothing new. Driving through Moss Side has been a dodgy proposition for at least 20 years and probably longer!

Very true - ex Hulme resident myself.

But the practise does seem to be spreading.

Maybe some enterprising vigilante could nick their bike biggrin

I'd pay to see the guy's face if he saw someone riding off on his bike biggrin

I dont think they would worry the bike was most likely nicked in the first place.

By my reckoning:

20 minute trip to Studentsville.
20 minutes waiting for student with bike.
5 minutes knobbling student for their bike.
10 minutes ride back.

Quite true!I used to fill my truck up with diesel early every morning at the Repsol station near the brewery and there were always suspicious characters knocking about.I always used to keep the lorries wheel brace up my sleeve just in case!

yes, it is a lot longer, .... I remember having problems there when I was a taxi driver, in 1968, 39 years ago!! (OMG!!!)

But I always saw the problem areas being Denmark Road, Moss Lane East and Princess Road through the centre, .....not thinking that the scrotes breed, produce more scrotes, who are steadily moving south to the suburbs!!!
