I emailed www.scuffedalloys.com and got a quick response.
They do split rims as my mate had his done there a few weeks back.
I'll ask him how much he paid

i went to the wheelspecialist in manchester.
they did a good job on the wheels, looked better than the factory finish. they are not the cheapest but they are thorough.
they give a 1yr warranty as well.

How did you get on at National Alloys? I had arranged to take my wheels there today to get them diamond cut. I was told I'd be able to drop them off at 8.30am but there was no one there - I spent 40 minutes waiting until 9.10am (they are meant to open at 9am) and eventually had to leave - I work in the centre of Manchester and need to be there fore 10am so couldn't wait a lot longer

So I'm a bit irritated about that, but as long as there's a genuine reason I'm willing to give them another go - would like to hear from someone that has already used them however. There was another guy who was waiting there for them to open too in an older 5 series Beemer - he was there before me when I got there at 8.30 and and seemed rather pissed off smile

That's pretty bad that. Well I arrived bang on 9am and the guy was just arriving too, so I handed him my keys (after taking a pic of my mileage) and he ran me home. Arrived at 5.30 and the car was sat in the exact same place with the wheels looking mint. All 4 done for £140. Bargain. I was quoted £65/wheel for someone to come to my house and just do the face! National Alloys did the entire wheel after removing the tyres/valves/etc.

I've recommended them to a mate who's got a brand new Clio F1 and wants his grey wheels redone gloss black.

Thanks for the info. Yeah it's annoying, though I'm working on the basis that there was probably some genuine emergency, so I'll give them a second try hopefully. Not been able to get hold of them on the phone today however but I only tried at about 4pm. Though I admit I was going to do the same and note the mileage, even though my car would probably not be as fun to take for a spin wink

Good to hear that you were happy with the results. I want them to fix some VW Atlanta alloys which are diamond cut, which I gather is a bit more specialised than most, because you need the diamond cutting machine - you can't just put filler or something in and paint over, since there is no paint - it's just bare metal that is lacquered.

I've also investigated Wheel Specialist though I found this bit in the quote they sent me: "If you wish to bring your wheels in on the vehicle, a non refundable deposit of £50 will be taken on booking in your vehicle to reserve your allocated space for that day". So, erm, that's 50 quid for a parking space. I expect a red carpet and a chaffeur for that kind of money - and I thought £13 quid a day at NCP was expensive! Also, a desposit can hardly be non-refundable, can it... An IMHO sneaky way of trying disguise another 50 quid charge.

Do National alloys just dodge up the face of the wheel like proclean used to do, or do they bother to take the tyre off and powder coat them properly. I'm sorry I don't call a quick spray over the outside of the wheel "refurbishing" before you use any refurbisher start asking some questions about how they do it, not just the price and colour.

My wheels weren't powder coated, and they did explain that to me beforehand. Powder coating was an option that I didn't want. All the wheels I've had done by ProClean in the past definitely had the tyres taken off, then the entire wheel blasted and painted before having the tyre refitted. I turned up once when they were running late to find all my tyres in a pile and marked up with chalk, and every set I ever picked up off them had no weights (and no residue left) as they don't offer a balancing service. Also, my Mk1 Escort wheels (no tyres) were dropped off covered in paint even on the bit where the tyre sits (between the faces) and picked up paint free.

To be honest, I didn't ask with these wheels because they were mint other than the scrapes on the rim so if they chose to leave the rest of the wheel 'original' and just do the face, I'd see that as a fair decision to make. And they were still a LOT cheaper than the guy who offered to just do the face.

I have had one awful set of wheels (mums old Hyundai Coupe) done by them years ago, but in fairness, when I went back expecting to be told to f*ck off, they took them back and redid them perfectly for me. I'd suggest the approach that I always take and let them know how fussy a customer you are before they do any work, and that you expect nothing short of perfection - keeps people on their toes IMHO!

PS, I don't work for them, just feel I've always had a fair service off them

Interesting this one, with ProClean, now known as National I think?

When they where known as ProClean, and only a few miles from me, I used to hear lots of stories about them. So many people would rave about the great job they did, but there where also a lot of unhappy customers.

The unhappy ones tended to be the more technically minded ones however.

As a result I never got round to using them as the jury was still out in my mind, so I'm keeping an eye out on this widnes outfit as they are also only a few miles from me and I could be tempted to use them.

I've just a look at their site and its been updated with a gallery, They were escort wheels I had done and I'm pretty sure the first two (before and after) are infact mine. As I say I'd recommend them without any hesitation
