Not a thrilling topic, but I'm about to move there for 3 months with my new job and having never been - I was hoping for a bit of advice.
Work will be in Guide (wherever that is) so I'm wanting to live pretty close to it. Seeing as I'm only staying for 3 months, it's pretty difficult to get somewhere on my own, so am looking at flatshare websites as we speak. So far the areas which have come up are.....
Darwin
Corporation Park
Accrington
Ewood
Witton
Crawshawbooth
Rossendale
Can anyone shed any light on which is a nice/not so nice area to live?

Thank you in advance smile

FFS buy a railpass and commute.

We have an office there and i try to avoide it like the plague.

It's not that bad realy, there are some lovely villages around Blackburn, and a few decent curry houses in the centre. Even a decent pint if you like ale Thwaites is the local brew and not too bad.

Just a shame the footie team are shite without old Jack bankrolling them wink

A friend of mine moved up there a couple of years ago, saw a nice looking stone terrace and took it since where she came from a stone building like that would signal a nicer / more affluent area... how wrong she was hehe They're all like that up there!

Darwen is cheap, for a reason, lower darwen slightly nicer.

Nr Witton park is ok, Cherry tree not bad, feniscowles nice, pleasington nicer...

Basically anywhere west of centre good, anywhere east less so.

(in my opinion, lived in bburn for 11years, and lower darwen for a couple)

ARGH madfuriousragecurse

Well forget all that - I'm not moving anywhere after all. I'm starting work at home in Sheffield - 5 mins from my house. I can't believe they think it's ok to change my plans a week and a half before I start work!

What HE said !!!

CLITHEROE , Long Preston, Settle, Gisburn, Skipton, Gargrave. Garstang, Longridge.

Or South West towards Southport, Rufford, Leyland etc

Avoid M65 Corridoor and East Lancs cotton towns like darwin etc.

Because I come from Burnley, (7 miles away) I have to say, Blackburn is the worst place on earth, I would live in Whalley or Clitheroe and travel into work. Wilpshire is nice on the outskirts

I agree, another one here in Burnley, and another one that thinks Blackburn is a pile of poo, I avoid it at all costs.

I went to school in Blackburn for 12 years and its pretty grim all over. Parts of Clitheroe are nice, Rawtestall can be OK if in the more rural spots and has the advantage of decent access to Manchester, but I'd actually recommend living in Pleasington. On my trip to school we/I used to go through Pleasington as a short cut and there are some great houses in a good rural setting with decent road access to motorways and other roads. It'll also be closer to Blackburn than most if you absolutely have to be near to Blackburn.

wheres Rossendale? doesnt appear on my map winkhehe

Rawtenstall is ok... Cloughfold has weird wacky person living there... you dont wanna live there hehe Waterfoot and Stacksteads have their nice bits... Bacup.... hmm nicer than Burnley and Blackburn. But the Job Centre in Bacup featured in League of Gentleman. and as you know - LoG is a pretty accurate portayal of the local populace wink

There is nothing wrong with the areas you mention in the Rossendale valley except its always raining and the locals have webbed feet. people still wear clogs there
