After reading several recommendations for somewhere we could trust to MOT our car, from this very forum, I have to say we've come away a little nonplussed and more than a little angry instead.

We took our Japanese sports car to a well known MOT Centre in the town today, I don't think I need (or should) name names. Not only were they late opening, but they failed to call all day, or even answer the phone to let my lady know when the car was ready. They finally called at 17:43, luckily my lady was already en-route to them anyway considering they close at 18:00. How is anyone supposed to get to a garage in seventeen minutes, even a local one?

On arrival the patron rudely passed her the mot certificate whilst speaking on the phone.... then once finished decided to answer the phone again leaving her standing there not knowing whats going on for 10 minutes. Amazing since he failed to answer the phone all afternoon. He then turns around and (eventually) says " we don't take cards". I mean, what century is this guy in?! To finish the whole experience he threw in some derogatory comments about the car and was patronising towards the lady. Unbelievable behaviour frankly. The lady agrees to post him a cheque as she doesn't have the cash on her. Thankfully the car passed without a problem, but thats by the by in my opinion.

So anyway, as you can quite obviously see, I will NOT be recommending these cowboys to anyone I know, and I urge anyone using them to leave the good lady at home when they go to collect, as the owner seems to prefer patronising them and generally being quite rude. If it weren't for the fact she's asked me not to, I would be down there myself having a word frankly. Not impressed.

No doubt everyone else thinks the sun shines out of this little unit in our town, but I just felt it needed saying anyway, thanks for reading.

To be honest, the clue is in the title and text, if you know the area. If you're outside the area its sorta irrelevant who it is really?

Doesn't take cards?

Have you got the right garage?

I always pay by card.

Well its possible his card reader was broken, either way his attitude wasn't apologetic which would indicate such a thing. Either that or he likes patronising young women for some reason?

Hi Barry

Sorry you had a bad experience! I took my Ultima for it's first MOT to the same place and loved every minute I spent there. The owner is a real character and I can understand not everyone getting the same experience I did. It's the first time I've heard anything bad about the place. They are certainly not cowboys!

Regards Dave

Edited to say you are correct about the 'no cards'.

You know, I'm talking thrugh my arse. I always pay by check.

Sounds like you caught him on a bad day, I sent a work colleagues girlfriend there a couple of moths ago and they were very chuffed not to get ripped off and given the usual storey about it needing £xhundred pounds worth of work before it would pass.

Actually it sounds like he needs a new receptionist again.

If its the same place, I had no complaints whatsoever on the servicing of my TVR. They were a brilliant garage.

Replies of this nature are precisely why we took our car there, I just think he's a bit biased toward TVR (understandable seeing as thats his speciality) but to be condescending towards the owner and the vehicle because it wasn't a TVR is rather annoying, and actually upset my good lady at the time believe it or not.

Mrs L takes her japanese car there regulary and receives the greatest of attention. Ian calls all the ladies 'LOVE' and the blokes that too!!!

Perhaps he had a bad day or did your lady have one?

As for the card thing- surely you have £30 in your wallet?

All I can say is, the missus didn't appreciate his tone, I wasn't there so can't comment further. As for the cash, it was £45 and no she doesn't carry much cash around generally, there's no need in this day an age, or so we thought!

I wish I hadn't written this thread tbh, but she was quite worked up that night and it riled me. Suffice to say I doubt we'll be back there in a hurry, not that he cares he has "far nicer machines to choose from"...

I don't care what he tests there, its still insulting to have remarks like that made about your car. She is a young woman with a nice car, she doesn't appreciate derogatory remarks from some smarmy bloke in a garage, is it that hard to understand? Sure, he's most likely nice as pie when dealing with yourself or even me but it sounds like he has a problem when dealing with the fairer sex. An outdated view of them one might suggest?

And no, £45 isn't a huge amount, we've never commented to the contrary, but not everyone carries wads of cash about with them on a daily basis surely? I know I only tend to get about that amount out as a general float for spendies.

You didn't mention he insulted your car. What did he say?

Doesn't sound like Ian to me, great fellah. And I don't think he has ever closed at 6pm!! He told me my Griff had gay wheels, so insulting your car means nowt. I think you must have caught him on a bad day, and I'm sure if you went back he'd explain all.
