Folks,

Looking to find a decent hotel in the Lakes, within shouting distance of Sellafield. Looks like I'll be there for a couple of weeks at a time for the next 18 months or so.

Anyone any suggestions? I'd normally head for a country house/family run type of place, but for the amount of time I'm going to have to be there, I'd be keen on all mod cons, (gym etc), especially as I'm unlikely to have the chance to get home at weekends when I am there.

Any suggestions?

Not as such.. Though I do have a contract for some management development/coaching type stuff with a large and fairly secure operation on the coast to the west side of the peaks somewhere..

Calder House @ Seascale is a nice seaside hotel with plenty of old character

Might you be expected to stay at Summergrove Hall?

I've got a feeling they also have a place for 'important' visitors to stay, but I'm not sure about that.

Ennerdale Country House Hotel in Cleator? Not been for a good few years but it used to be quite nice!

Thanks mate, I almost googled that.. hehe

Ennerdale looks like an option. I'm just peeved that the whole thing has been put back a few months. Was looking forward to spending the summer there so long evenings could be spent walking and paragliding. Instead long dark autumn evenings will be spent in the pub. So thats ok then now I think about it..

Try Rose Cottage in Cockermouth (ooo errr!)

Only about 10 mins from Sellafield and a right nice place to stay.

Should be listed on Smoothhound.co.uk

There are 2 hotels in Beckermet. One of them has an absolutely fantastic restaurant. I wigh I could remember the name of it.......all I can remember is that it isn't the "White Horse"/ "Whire Swan". It's the other one.

It's right next door to the local policeman's house, which means it's open until the last person leaves the bar.........which is usually the local policeman!

If I remebre the name of it, or can find it out, I'll let you know. Alternatively, there are a few in St Bees.

Cockermouth to Sellafield is around 20 miles. There's no way you can do it in 10 mins

Ten minutes in the TVR?

He might have to adjust the timing for enriched uranium (and only need refuelling every ten years) but ten minutes is a cinch.

Bet I could make it in 8 wink

Cheers folks.. Some ideas at least.

Tend to stay in Cockermouth and so far have had one of the chaps from the site drive me back. IIRC its usually more like half and hour at rush hour..

Here's hoping for a decent autumn..
