Hi.

Did anyone else pass the copper sat in his white van just outside the Peak Forest village today? Wot looked like a Gatso camera box on a tripod about two feet off the ground and some small black pod attached to it by a few yards of cable. No idea what the speed limit actually was outside the village (National Limits?) but I wasn't hanging around.

Just have to watch the post for the next few weeks

Fingers crossed I scrubbed enough mph off in time if he was a 'snapper'.

Any info/facts on the traps they have on this type of road appreciated.

Don't really know, but Peak Forest is one of the most notorious villages for Police cop speed traps in the North West, going back well over thirty years...........

Yeah, it's notorious, and loads of signs 'warning' you, but no fixed cameras till you get to Hazel Grove. Just wondered what type of kit it was, as a part from the man holding the gun (old radar gun or new laser gun) not seen that type of kit at the roadside b4 and just wanted to know if anyone else seen old bill with that equipment b4

He wasn;t there on Sunday on the way back from Chatsworth Gathering...

what time was this on the 20th, I drive through peak forest everyday (although I turn off in peak forest). Was the copper on the chesterfield side or the chapel/buxton side?

He was on the Buxton side, on the straight-ish bit after you've climbed out of Peak Forest and have gone past the National Limits signs (I now know 'cos I came back from the TVR Chatsworth gathering on Sunday that way just to check!!), in the large layby on the left. It was probably about 1pm on Friday.

Phew, I turn off in Peak Forest. I thought I'd wizzed by without noticing which is unusual for me. Normally the sight of a workmans van parked in a layby is enough to have me reaching for the anchors. A useful bit of info to store for future reference though.

That would be a mini gatso.

South Yorks use them a lot, sometimes on the side of the road, with the van hidden off the road.

Often seen on the A61 dual carriageway 40, from the top of the Dronfield bypass to Norton roundabout. Van hides on Lowedges Road, just off the dual carriageway. The normal Talivan operates there, too.

Aye, that's always been a favourite hunting ground.

In the days of hand held radars, motor cycle plod used to hide his bike, then lurk behind a big tree and lean round with his gun...
