"where four people died last year". Yeah, 3 of them were in a car together, crashed, climbed out then got run over, well done, I'm sure a 50mph limit will stop that from happening. The morons

It's a bad bend that needs attention when you drive it so your driver on 'cruise control' default motorway snoozathon needs waking up for it.

But 50 is rediculous even in the wet.

A very poor knee-jerk reaction from the brain dead in control.

I totally agree planetdave, it is a bad bend to have on a motorway, not many people would deny that, but you have to be pretty numb to lose it by driving too fast round there. If a car can't make it round safely in lane 3 (which is on the inside of the bend) at 70mph in the rain then it's not really roadworthy to be honest. Same goes for the driver if the car is fine!

Just a shame that people do seem to crash there a lot, relatively speaking.

70mph in the outside lane is much too fast for that bend.

70 is easy on that bend, in the wet what I have seen happen is folk wade in than have to lift for Mr 45 tootling round the bend, the rest is pretty much the usual, slide, correct, spin, whoop the barrier, stop.

The 50 limit is to protect the many idiots that should not be on the road (oh and probably to aid congestion, yeah aid not reduce)

No, the 50 limit is so people can stop in time to avoid any obstructions, which at 70mph pretty much nobody could do while in lane 3.

Could they at 50mph? I don't think they could.

It's not the speed it's the appreciation of conditions. Visibility is fine for higher speeds if you can multitask.

The answer is not to change the CD mid-corner and then go walk-about on the carriageway. Walking on lane three is never a good idea.

Is it already active? Somebody on another thread said it went live 1st April. Drove past their last night, not much sign of a conventional specs system but on another news thread it said they were hidden on the gantries.

Yep it should be active now. They are normal SPECS cameras placed on the gantries. One set a distance before the bend, one set shortly afterwards, and a single one covering the exit just before the bend.

Hadn't been that way for a long while and encountered the 50mph signs a long way before the bend on the straight. Seemed silly and most traffic didn't seem to slow down. I "think" by the time the flow got near the bend most was down to 50 mph. If they've set the trigger at 55mph, I expect they'll be raking the cash in for the next few months.

Most people have twigged already and are jamming on the anchors rolleyes at the first cameras.

After being forced to go round twice @ an indicated 50 I can confirm that it is in no way a suitable speed. Even in a downpour I couldn't condone it.

A strictly enforced 70 would be ideal but that wouldn't appease the safety nazis that set the rules.

On Saturday night nothing appeared to be painted yellow, have they painted the cameras up now?

They are yellow and have been since they were put up.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are suddenly a lot more rear-end knocks shortly before that bend.

Does it look at the front number plate?

Yep, just the front, all SPECS cameras do as far as I'm aware.

Let me see,
option 1, hide front number plate, just 30.00 fine
option 2, display front number plate, 60.00 fine plus points.
another good reason for not having a front number plate.

Agree with the above good point.

I nearly had the £60 fine and the points there as i was doing 60 in the 50 and 'touch wood' nothing through as of yet.

So the other alternative is go through at 60 mph..
