They're doing a demonstration race around central Manchester centre this Sunday. Paddock open at 10, race 2-3, all finishes at 7.

Anyone coming? Looks like Deansgate is the Start/Finish straight and there's a twisty corner coming into Albert Square.

I'm some people down from York, but I'll hang around in the upstairs cafe at Piccadilly station from 9-10am if anyone fancies it. I'll be wearing a blue, red & white Lotus jacket if you don't know what I look like.

Hope to see some PHers there!

I'll be there!

It's part of the Sky Festival. Lots of things going on in the city today and tomorrow. Some of the things are ticket only and already sold out though (a1 gp is ticketless) - not surprising when the tickets are free. Still if you have Sky then lots of the events will be on their too numerous to mention channels. Do a search for Sky Festival to find out more.....

...No I dont work for Sky, no i don't have Sky and don't want it either! Long live Freeview and the BBC!

That was pretty awesome. I've never been so close to a modern GP car before - the noise they make is like a cross between lightning striking directly ahead, a jet taking off and a barrage of machine-gun fire.

There wasn't a real 'race' as such, but the tight street circuit meant that the cars performed a series of full-bore standing starts. Acceleration was jaw-dropping - they stopped just onto Deansgate after turning out of Lloyd Street, floored the throttle and were at the corner of Exchange Square in about three or four seconds.

Unfortunately the Team GB car conked out after the first three laps - looked like a gearbox fault as they tried to give Robbie Kerr a rolling start for the final lap and he headed off down towards Albert Square doing about 10 mph and making very little noise at all.

Never mind though - a great day out for petrolheads and, to my surprise, not a single Greenpeas protester in sight.

Where were you lot? I started spectating at the end of the start/finish straight, then moved onto Lloyd Street and Deansgate and back to the grid for the last lap.

Minimax - I think I've still got your old mobile number (tried to call and got a 'number not found' tone) - any chance you could email me with your new one?

that's where we all were!

the view from lloyd st and down deansgate was fantastic, especially when the fosters car stopped and burned out and flew off down deansgate right next to us!

Yes the team of the day award has to go to Lebanon for his balls out attitude both on the corners and straights. Though Mr Malaysia certainly did one hell of a fast powerslide out of Lloyd St onto Deansgate which was a sight to behold. Not sure I caught it on video... I'll upload them later.

The only downside to the event was the little stomach high fag smokin' scallie who, when told the Canada car was a real racing car, blurted a new phrase "yer cha'in meh!" After confused expressions from a few of us, he blurted "yer cha'in (chatting) bullshit to meh, aren't yer?!" I very nearly took the cig off him and stubbed it in his spotty little face, but chose not to make him less facially challenged!
